100 Thieves Looking to Pick Up NRG or RNG Roster
100 Thieves has been talking about getting back into the CS:GO scene for a while and even sent Nadeshot to the Berlin Major to look for potential players to sign.
Those talks are more valuable than the team expected as the team is now rumored to sign one of two rosters: NRG’s or RNG’s.
Rumors and Tongue Twisters
The rumors began Sunday after a tweet from Don Haci stating he heard the org expressed great interest in NRG’s roster. NRG is the number two squad in North America, currently holds a Major spot, and made a run to Berlin’s semi-finals.
The move makes sense for 100 Thieves considering NRG’s recent success. They defeated world number one and two Liquid and Astralis in the New Legends Stage at the Major, as well as hold a spot in the EPL and ECS.
The org also has a penchant for good content creators, so picking up a spot with content creation monster Tarik seems like a no brainer.
However, according to Dekay, Renegades’ (RNG) roster contracts are about to expire as well. This gives 100 Thieves a much cheaper option to pick-up, especially as he also reported RNG could be leaving CS:GO for good.
RNG tried to deny Dekay’s report on Twitter but quickly deleted their response, only adding more credibility to his claims.
The team also holds a Major and Pro-League spot themselves and would come with no buyout clauses, so a pick up by 100T is becoming more and more likely.
Personal Take
If I had to choose between the two rosters for 100 Thieves to pick up, I’d go with NRG.
RNG had a great run at the Major, but the team also has struggled elsewhere, including a quarter-finals exit at Katowice, and a last-place finish at ESL One: Cologne in July.
The Major felt more like them punching above their weight, while NRG has consistently been a strong team for most of the past couple of years.
RNG also didn’t beat any team beyond ENCE that made it the New Champions Stage of the Major. While ENCE is a good squad, they looked flat in the quarter-finals.
If 100 Thieves wants success out the gate, especially after their last squad failed even to play a single game, NRG is the safest bet.
