Which Edition of Rainbow 6 Siege Should You Buy?
It has been six years since the launch of Rainbow 6 Siege, and the game sees no signs of stopping. But five years of content means that there’s multiple years’ worth of content that you can’t just buy anymore. Ubisoft has been generous enough to give new players the option to buy the game with all the current content. However, it seems like that convenience comes with a price. So as a new player, which edition of Rainbow 6 Siege should you really buy?
Siege’s Many Editions
For new players who want to get into Rainbow Six Siege, there are many versions from which you can choose to buy. While it does not matter which one you choose as they can be upgraded, buying a bundle will inevitably cost you less than buying one and then separately purchasing the DLC. However, the benefit of buying a smaller package is that if you do not like it, you spent less than you would have. Here are the bundles provided by Ubisoft.
Standard Edition
Price: 19.99 USD
This is the base game of Siege, featuring all the maps to come out from the six previous years. However, the edition lacks all the extra operators that were made public during Siege’s life cycle. Buying this edition means you will have to unlock those yourself through grinding renown or spending real money with R6 Credits to purchase the operator bundles you missed.
Deluxe Edition
Price: 29.99 USD
The Deluxe Edition of Siege comes with the base game and includes the Year 1 and Year 2 operators, giving you all 16 operators who have been released during the first two years of Siege’s life cycle. However, that still means that the next four years of content will have to be gound out to unlock the operators you’ve been missing.

Operator Edition
Price: 69.99 USD
The Operator Edition for Rainbow 6 Siege containing all 38 extra operators released through the first five years of content coming up to Year 6 of Siege. However, with Year 6 on the horizon, the battle pass for Year 6 will need to be purchased for the full amount when it releases.
Ultimate Edition
Price: 89.99 USD
This is the complete half-decade bundle of Rainbow 6 Siege, containing all 38 operators released through Year 5. It also includes the Disruptor Cosmetic pack containing items and skins releasing throughout Year 6. This is the only addition to the bundle, and with an extra $20 price tag, it makes it seem a little too much.
The Verdict
So, which edition of Rainbow 6 Siege should you buy for yourself? The answer depends. For brand new players who want to get into Siege for the first time, my recommendation lies within the deluxe edition, allowing you to play the game and nabbing you some of the extra post-launch content you missed out on. With the Year 1 and 2 operators included in the game, however, the only downside is that if you do enjoy the game, it will take a lot of grinding and even some real cash if you plan on unlocking the rest of the operators for your game any time soon.
I recommend the Operator Edition for players who have already tried the game out, know they’re going to like it, and are either looking to change consoles or buy it to play with friends. Since Siege is going to be a game that you’ll probably be playing for a long time, it goes without saying that wanting to play as every operator released so far is on the top of your priority list. While the Ultimate Edition seems like a good choice for players to try out, the extra 20-dollar price tag for cosmetics seems a bit steep. You would be better off purchasing just the Operator Edition and then deciding whether to purchase the cosmetics.
The overall best choice for which Rainbow Six Siege version to buy is the Operator Edition. This is a fine choice for players who want to really get into Siege, but it’s a bit of a high price tag for those trying it out with friends. You’ll still need the Year 6 Season Pass if you want to unlock all the upcoming characters for the year, but you can still buy them separately with real money or R6 Credits.
