The Top 15 Rarest Fortnite Skins

by in Fortnite | Jul, 20th 2021

Fornite needs no introduction, the battle royale game that swept the nation, and turned Epic Games into a juggernaut of a company. Fortnite’s business model single-handedly brought the battle pass into the mainstream. With players being able to play the game for free, but unlock new character skins, emotes, harvesting tools, and back bling for their characters to take to the island. Whether this includes playing through the battle pass or deciding to purchase some items from the shop, there are many ways for players to spice up their characters and show off their new looks in a match. However, some people who are lucky enough to pick up some of the rarest Fortnite skins before they disappeared to have a whole new level of notoriety.

The Rarest Fortnite Skins (In No Particular Order)

Fortnite has had its fair share of skins that are considered to be rare, whether that includes appearing in the shop for a small amount of time, never to be seen again, or if they’re part of a battle pass where the players have to complete challenges and cannot get it done in time. Here’s a list of some of Fortnite’s Rarest skins, albeit not in any particular order as determining the rarity of Fortnite Skins in a literal sense isn’t feasible. However, the skins I’m mentioning in this list are skins that players either cannot obtain anymore, or haven’t appeared in the shop for a long time, but may return.

Blue Team Leader

rarest fortnite skins

In-Game Rarity: Rare

Model: Ramirez

Origin: PlayStation Celebration Pack 1

The Blue Team Leader was a skin that was seemingly only available for a few short months. Being released on February 18th, 2018 in the PlayStation store. Players who were subscriber’s to PlayStation Plus would be able to download this character and bring it along with them into the game, being a version of the default character Ramirez, sporting a blue and white tank top, complete with a beanie, the Blue Team leader is sure to stand out. However, this skin was removed from the PlayStation store in June of 2018, when the launch of the “PlayStation Plus Celebration Pack 2” took its place.  Being Introduced in Season 2 of the original Fortnite game, players who picked this up during the Earliest days of Fortnite’s life can let other players know about this, being PlayStation’s first collaboration with Epic Games and Fortnite, this flew under the radar of many players who played the Battle Royale on PlayStation, making it one of the rarest Fortnite skins in the game compared to some of the other on this list. I also happen to own this skin myself. However, all hope isn’t lost for players on PlayStation who want a free skin, as Playstation is currently running another PlayStation Plus Celebration Pack that comes with a unique skin.

Renegade Raider

In-Game Rarity: Rare

Model: Headhunter

Origin: Fortnite Season 1 Item Shop

During the first season of Fortnite, players who managed to make it to level 20 would be able to unlock specific items in the shop. These items included two skins, one of them being the Renegade Raider, using the model of Headhunter from Fortnite’s Save the World mode, which was originally planned to be Fortnite before the explosion in popularity of the battle royale. Players who decided to spend a little extra money on the game to purchase Renegade raider for 1200 V-bucks now own one of the rarest Fortnite skins. And because Season 1 skins in Fortnite will never return to the items shop, players who own renegade raiders are labeled as one of the players who were on the ground floor of Fortnite’s success. Surprisingly, Epic Games remembered the skin in the 8.10 update, giving players the ability to switch to another Save the World style from the game mode.

Aerial Assault Trooper

rarest fortnite skins

In-Game Rarity: Rare

Model: Spitfire

Origin: Fortnite Season 1 Item Shop

Considered to be rarer than Renegade Raider, as more people opted to purchase her over the Aerial Assault Trooper, this skin is considered to be one of the rarest Fortnite skins in the game. Players who were willing to purchase some V-bucks during the beginnings of Fortnite found themselves able to purchase the Trooper upon hitting level 15, whereas the Renegade Raider was level 20. Players, however, opted to buy the latter over AAT. With the announcement that skins from the original season of Fortnite were not going to make a return to the item shop, players who owned the Aerial Assault Trooper found themselves owning a skin that, while not flashy, is certainly unique.

Skull Trooper

rarest fortnite skins

In-Game Rarity: Epic

Model: Jonesy

Origin: Fortnite Season 1 Halloween

The Skull Trooper is a skin that a lot of players are familiar with, popularized by the streamer Myth, the skin has become highly sought after, and didn’t hit the shop since its introduction in 2017. Although it wasn’t until the Fortnitemares of 2018 that the skull trooper would be making its return to the game’s item shop, however, as this was a legacy skin, epic decided to do something extra for players who purchased the skull trooper before the Halloween event in 2018. Players who found themselves purchasing skull trooper in 2017 were rewarded with a new style in 2018, being that players who bought skull trooper in 2018 unlocked the green glow style for the character, whereas the original owners of the skull trooper unlocked that style, as well as the purple glow style, which was something that players who just purchased skull trooper would never be able to use. Making the 2017 Skull trooper one of the rarest Fortnite skins. Skull trooper has appeared in the store every year since Fortnite Season 1 and has now been accompanied by a more common set of skeleton-themed skins, making up the set known as the Skull Squad.

Black Knight

rarest fortnite skins

In-Game Rarity: Legendary

Model: Jonesy

Origin: Level 70 of the Season 2 Battle Pass

The Black Knight is considered to be one of the most sought-after skins in the entire game, becoming a staple of Early Fortnite. Also being one of the first battle pass skins in the game’s life. With players having to reach level 70 during season 2 to unlock this character. Many players attribute this skin to be one of the original skins, gaining its popularity based on the mix of medieval and modern. Even though the reason this skin is sought after is based on the fact that “it just looks cool” the skin was put back in the item shop once in 2019, and still hasn’t been seen since, making the skin rare as any player who owns the skin either got it from the original season 2, or the brief time it appeared in the store.

Double Helix

Double Helix Fortnite Skin (Outfit) | FORTNITESKINS.COM

In-Game Rarity: Epic

Model: Empty Head

Origin: Fortnite Switch Bundle

Double Helix is a Fortnite skin that was also part of the first promotional crossover between epic games and Nintendo. Players who purchased the Nintendo Switch console bundled with Fortnite would be able to unlock the Double Helix skin upon launching the game, the skin also came with a special harvesting tool, as well as 1,000 V-bucks. The Skin’s rarity is attributed to a couple of reasons. Although the skin is an edit of the Archetype skin, its rarity lies within the player who wants to purchase the character to buy an entire switch console for a free-to-play game. Combining this with the poor video quality and overall gameplay of Fortnite on the Switch, it’s fair to assume that anyone who owns the Double Helix skin has bought the switch for not just Fortnite, as the Switch has many more titles on the console that would be considered to be more enjoyable than Fortnite In its console state. However, until Nintendo and Epic stop making the Double Helix bundle, the Skin will still be available to any Fortnite player who wants to drop $300 on a Switch to unlock the skin.

Dark Voyager

Dark Voyager Skin

In-Game Rarity: Legendary

Model: Empty Head

Origin: Season 3 Battle Pass Tier 70

When it comes down to the topic of some of the best-looking skins in the game, a lot of fans point to the simplicity and design of the legacy skins, being ones made before Fortnite started Chapter 2. One of these skins mentioned is a skin from season 3, the Dark Voyager. Being an astronaut the skin looks great as part of any player’s arsenal, however, the skin really shines with the way it’s designed, being a completely black suit and helmet, meshed with glowing lines around the body to make it visible in dark places. Players point to this skin as some of the best skins in the game. However, as Fortnite’s popularity skyrocketed after season 3, players who managed to make it to Tier 70 in the battle pass found themselves with a skin that not a lot of players had in their lockers, making the skin highly sought after. There, however, does remain a possibility that the skin will return to the shop in some capacity, although it may not be completely certain.

The Reaper

The Reaper Skin

In-Game Rarity: Legendary

Model: Mike

Origin: Season 3 Battle Pass Tier 100

Another addition to the group from season 3, while this item is most likely going to be stuck in the vault forever, the reaper, known by the community as “John Wick” is the Tier 100 skin players unlocked if they were able to complete the battle pass by the end of season 3. While resembling the character the players refer to him as the reaper is not John Wick. Although encountering a player who uses this skin will tell you one thing for certain. The person that You’re up against is not only a very good player at Fortnite, but they’re also an extremely seasoned player, being that they managed to play the game in its early stages, and make it all the way to tier 100. As the Reaper is the first skin to be assigned to the end of the battle pass. However, players who didn’t get their hands on the reaper were able to purchase a proper John Wick skin, when the film series collaborated with Fortnite to make content to promote the next movie in the franchise.

Sparkle Specialist

Sparkle Specialist Skin

In-Game Rarity: Epic

Model: Headhunter

Origin: Season 2 Battle Pass Tier 56

Another of the OG, skins. Being introduced in the Season 2 Battle Pass, players who managed to make it to Tier 56 found themselves with the Sparkle Specialist, another Headhunter skin, which is the same model that the Renegade Raider is based off of. Since the end of Season 2’s battle pass, many players who own the Black Night skin are also owners of the Sparkle Specialist, and while the disco theme seemed to stop with the introduction of the next season, there’s a small glimmer of hope for players who want to get their hands on her, since the reintroduction of the black knight in 2019.

Hacivat

Hacivat Skin

In-Game Rarity: Epic

Model: Unique

Origin: In-Game Store

For a battle royale game, many would find this character to be out of the ordinary. While characters like the Avengers and some video game legends made their way into the battle royale the idea of a Turkish fictional character being introduced into the battle royale. The Turkish shadow play known as Karagoz and Hacivat, which was shown around the ottoman empire has worked its way into the mainstream, as the two characters were opposite foils for one another. Hacivat is a Fortnite skin that appeared during the months of September to December of 2018 and hasn’t been seen since. Making him one of the rarest skins that any Fortnite player can purchase. Hacivat also comes with back bling and a glider of his own, with the glider resembling an airship.

Galaxy

Galaxy Skin

In-Game Rarity: Epic

Model: Hawk

Origin: Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S4 Tablets

This spectral skin was introduced during the early days of Fortnite mobile, with a promotion being struck up between Samsung and Epic Games to entice players of Fortnite to check the game out if they purchased either a Galaxy Note 9 or a Galaxy S4 Tablet. Since the game was in beta on Android devices, any player who found themselves using a note 9 or S4 tablet would be able to join the beta of Fortnite Mobile and unlock this skin. However, the price of entry is in fact the cost of the device, either $1000 For the note 9, or $449 for the tablet. Being the fact that the game was still in its early stages for mobile devices, anyone who was in the market for an android phone would be interested at the time. However, Nobody who is looking to own the skin would want to pay the high price tag that came with the skin. Making the number of players who got their hands on the galaxy skin limited.

Special Forces

Special Forces Skin

In-Game Rarity: Rare

Model: Renegade

Origin: In-Game Item Shop

One of the rarest Fortnite skins, special forces is one of the few characters that survived the purge of Season 1 characters from the online store. While retaining the simplistic nature of original Fortnite, Special forces have found itself to appear on several occasions over the course of the game’s life cycle, while unsuspecting, it’s become quite the gem for players who own a lot of rare skins in the game. Special Forces’ last appearance on the Fortnite item store was in January of 2019. And for now, the skin has never been seen again. However, that doesn’t mean that hope remains for players who now want to get their hands on this diamond in the rough of a character.

Axiom

Axiom Skin

In-Game Rarity: Rare

Model: Jonesy

Origin: In-Game Item Shop

Another character from the item shop, Axiom is part of the “Third Eye” set, including another skin that is just as rare as himself. This character sports what can only be described as a mix between Sam Fisher and Steve Rodgers. However, many players didn’t see the appeal of a skin like Axiom this being the case, the skin blended into the shop, only appearing two more times in July of 2018 where it ultimately disappeared. However, since its last appearance was after the final appearance of a skin-like Havicat, the proof of Axiom’s Rarity comes in the fact that Axiom has been in the shop a whopping 3 times before his 2 and a half year-long hiatus.

Psion

Psion Skin

In-Game Rarity: Rare

Model: Wildcat

Origin: In-Game Item Shop

Psion is the companion to the previous entry Axiom Being Part of the “Third Eye” set. The pair were sold together, however, it seems like Psion was the first one to get the boot, sporting a similar look to Axiom, Psion was shown off 3 times in the store as well, only giving players a few days in the game to pick her up, with her last appearance in the game being in June of 2019, it’s been 3 years since players have heard from the remnants of the Third Eye Set.

Black Widow

In-Game Rarity: Marvel Series

Fortnite Black Widow Skin - Character, PNG, Images - Pro Game Guides

Model: Headhunter

Origin: In-Game Item Shop

Released to players during a promotion between Disney/Marvel and Epic Games, the Fortnite LTM mode endgame was put out for players to try. In the game mode players took the role of either the avengers or the chitari, with the ability to find weapons from the avenger’s arsenal, or if playing on the other team players could take the role of Thanos himself if they were the first person to get their hands on one of the 6 infinity stones that appeared around the map. As the promotion was continuing, Epic games were given the okay from Disney to make skins of the characters in the Disney Avengers series, limiting them to using assets they had. Epic decided to make only 2 skins for the game, Black Widow and Star-Lord, both characters who have base models of the default characters of Fortnite. Combining this with the fact that another Black Widow was made for the game, being a completely unique model, it’s unlikely that the original Black widow character model will be making its way back into Fortnite. However, Marvel is still getting some love with the introduction of a Loki Skin.

There are more skins out there that players are holding onto, and while the list of rarest Fortnite skins could continue, the fact of the matter is that Fortnite’s cosmetics library is too vast for any player to fathom. With plenty of skins that Fortnite is creating, more rare skins will start appearing online throughout the lifespan of the battle royale game. Perhaps those who are Reading own one of the skins mentioned. If so, show it off on the game! Players will be sure to notice you before you take them out on the island to claim your rightful place as the winner in Fortnite, and you’ll look awesome while doing it.
