Smite Tier List 2019: All Gods Ranked

by in SMITE | Sep, 23rd 2019

What makes a MOBA game stand out from other genres is that they each have a vast array of characters to choose from to use in a strategic style gameplay. It’s layer upon layer of strategy that makes it overwhelming for players who aren’t used to games like this.

Smite stands out from even among the MOBA games because it’s more welcoming to newcomers (like myself) than other games like it. After all, I tried League of Legends and Dota 2, but both were too much to draw me in.

That all changed with Smite, and I know many players who feel the same. Because of it, in fact, it’s opened up the genre entirely to me where now I can jump into games like League and Arena of Valor and feel right at home for the first time.

Smite Tier List

Because Smite is so perfect for players who have never been hooked on a MOBA and even veterans, too, there are going to be a lot of players who jump into it with no idea of which character to play.

While the gameplay is welcoming, the massive roster can be quite the opposite.

Initially, when I first started playing the game on PS4 during its beta, the roster was manageable enough that it didn’t seem so bad. But if you were to start playing right now, you would find that there are more than 100 characters available to choose from.

Yes, you read that number correctly. The game has now crossed over the 100 character mark in the roster, and not only that, but there are five classes to pick between. You have the Warrior, Guardian, Mage, Assassin, and Hunter classes.

The classes are pretty self-explanatory on their own, but it adds yet another layer that can make figuring out the game a challenge. That’s where my Smite tier list comes in. This list contains every single fighter in the game to date and ranks them into a tier.

Thankfully, one thing that you will find about the fighters in the game is that there is no bad god, which is a surprise since even games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have terrible characters. But what you’ll find is that even the C Tier gods can hold their own on the battlefield.

Smite Tier List: SS Tier

What’s also unique about Smite is that some of the gods are so great that they deserve a tier above the S Tier that is usually the best, hence, the SS Tier. The gods that are in this tier are the gods among gods. What you are going to find here are characters who don’t fail to be amazing.

They are arguably overpowered but nonetheless are worth checking out. Even if you aren’t a fan of them, though, it’s worth knowing what they are all about so that you can prepare for meeting them on the battlefield.

Ao Kuang

”Smite

Ao Kuang is known as one of the best gods for the middle lane for a reason. Kicking off this Smite tier list is a Mage class god who, interestingly enough, uses some melee tactics in addition to the typical ranged attacks that the Mage class is known for.

What makes him so great is that this dragon god can hold his own well against almost every single god on this tier list. With his strong single target damage, he is the perfect fit for going out into the middle lane in the tried and true Conquest mode.

His ultimate is one of the best in the game, but it can be tricky to execute if you aren’t familiar with the targeting. This is why it makes him not just wonderful alone but a great asset with others as well. He can be a strong support character, too, having someone like Hades who can stop enemies set Ao Kuang up for an easy kill. His versatility in this regard makes him one of the best.

Freya

”Smite

What’s impressive about Freya is that she was once just your typical Mage class hero who could deal some good damage from afar. But Hi-Rez Studios made the wonderful decision to buff her and tweak her so that she could become a carry, too.

As such, she can be one of the best carries in the whole game. Like Ao Kuang, what makes her so excellent is that she is versatile. She can be the expected magical god that can focus on dealing the damage or become a physical-focused carry that is offset by a weaker ultimate.

Regardless of which way that you choose to play her, there is no doubting that Freya is one of the best on this list. There isn’t a bad Smite god in the game, so what makes her stand apart from the rest is her ability to be whatever you need her to be.

King Arthur

Smite King Arthur Transparent

You’re going to start to see a trend here with the SS Tier gods. These gods are in a league of their own with their ability to be flexible on the battlefield, and the best at doing this is King Arthur. It’s built into his actual character to be able to switch up tactics on the fly.

This is because King Arthur’s main feature is the ability to switch between two stances, sort of similar to what Hel does. What makes him so great, though, is that the two stances are able to cover a range of situations that you’ll come across within the game.

These two stances allow King Arthur to not only be a tank of sorts, despite his Warrior class, but deal massive area of effect damage, too. Couple this with his high mobility, and you have one of the — if not the — best gods on this entire Smite tier list.

Merlin

Smite Tier List Merlin Transparent

Merlin, like King Arthur, can switch stances, but not in the same way. His stance changing is more limited and not nearly as game-changing. Instead, his stances just switch up how he deals damage and the ways that you can counter against certain enemies.

As such, this does make Merlin one of the most complex gods in the whole game at this time. You have to contend with not just learning four abilities and a passive but several more because of his stance switching. Not only that, but they each work best against different gods.

With Merlin, it’s all about keeping enemies on their toes. If you’re constantly able to use your abilities as soon as the cooldown is up, they won’t be able to keep up well unless they, too, know his spells. Even if they do, though, the Flicker ability shared between all stances is great for escaping an unfortunate situation.

Hera

Smite Tier List Hera Transparent

Rounding out the exceptional SS Tier is Hera, yet another Mage in this tier. What differentiates her from Ao Kuang and Merlin, though, is that she is far from the average Mage god. In fact, if you’re playing her like a normal Mage, you are playing her wrong.

Hera is a Mage who is really a Guardian in disguise with some Warrior-level damaging abilities. She excels at dealing damage up close and personal, unlike her fellow magical gods. As such, if you can build her up with items that are designed to make her a tank, you will be almost unstoppable.

Together with her pet, Hera can keep enemies at bay as they focus on trying to take her out. They will be surprised to find that she is able to stay alive long enough to use her impressive crowd control abilities to control the field and get up close to take out the opponent. Her unpredictability is uncanny and makes her deserving of the SS Tier.

Smite Tier List: S Tier

Smite Tier List Agni Transparent

While the SS Tier is unbelievable in terms of flexibility and power, the S Tier is nothing to scoff at. These are the best of the best, too, just not so much that you have to question if the developer favors them over the others. Smite Tier List: B Tier

Smite TIer List Arachne Transparent

The B Tier gods on this list are great, despite being several tiers down this list. It just shows how well balanced the game is that these are all gods that are worthy of your time. With the right player who dedicates time to them, these gods could be able to stand toe to toe with King Arthur and the other SS Tier gods on this list.

  • Amaterasu

  • Artemis

Smite Tier List: C Tier

At the bottom of this list, we find the C Tier gods. Like I mentioned at the beginning of this Smite Tier List, there isn’t a single bad god in the game. So, just because these four gods are at the bottom, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t worth your time.

What it means is that they just need a little more work and dedication to do well in battles. All four of the gods here are good, but they aren’t as good as the rest. For one reason or another, they are held back by some limitation that would propel them further up this list.

Cabrakan

Cabrakan is one step away from being a great Guardian tank. He has a good ability that controls the enemies that are trapped in his ground pounds but does little beyond this to differentiate himself from other gods like Ymir who can trap much better.

It also doesn’t help that he is quite vulnerable to ranged foes while pounding the ground against enemies. Thankfully, he does have high defense that keeps him from dipping down into being a bad god.

Isis

The biggest problem with Isis is herself. Many of her abilities require you to be positioned just right for it to work the way it’s supposed to, and this can be a major issue. It causes her to be susceptible to players who are more mobile on the battlefield.

What does both help and hurt her, too, is that she is a strong starter. At the beginning of a match, she is able to get quick, early kills against enemies who don’t have access to all of their skills. At the same time, though, she isn’t as strong at all in the mid- to late-game sections.

Poseidon

Poseidon is an easy god to learn and play, but his simplicity is also his biggest downfall. Besides his ultimate, his abilities are very similar to one another and, like Isis, can be easily avoided. This is a problem as Poseidon is too predictable.

His only saving grace is his high damage and ultimate. If you are able to keep your enemy on their toes, you will find that you deal some heavy attacks. His ultimate is also much easier to land than the other attacks he has and can take out enemies fast, making him a good god overall.

Nike

Nike suffers from some of the same issues as the last two gods in the C Tier. Positioning with Nike is key to being successful, but it isn’t easy to accomplish this. It’s far easier for your foe to get past your crowd control abilities and take you out.

What does make Nike worth playing are the ways that she can buff her teammates. This makes her a god that almost has to work together with someone else, which limits what she can do. She also doesn’t have the same power, speed, or tankness as other Warriors, making her close to becoming a mediocre god but barely hanging on in the Smite Tier List.
