How to Peacefully Survive in Fortnite
If you’ve played Fortnite long enough, you know about how frustrating it can be if you’re eliminated within the first few minutes of the game. You’re hyping yourself up to get a Victory Royale only to be shot down by some random player with a weapon before you could react.
This is one of the most frustrating parts of the game and can really make you hate Fortnite since it can happen over and over again. However, luckily for you, there is a solution to all your problems. There is a way to survive in Fortnite without ever facing the problem of dying in the early game.
Sure, there might not be as much action, but you’ll still get to face off against some of the opponents and have fire-fights against your enemies. You’ll also have the satisfying “Victory Royale” title pop up on your screen if you win.
After all, this method of playing Fortnite is much easier and more efficient when it comes to helping lower-level and mediocre players grabbing their first “Victory Royale” in the game. What are we waiting for? Let’s get started!
Why Do You Die Early?
Let’s start out by answering the elephant in the room. Why do you keep dying early? How is it that you fail to make it out alive past the top sixty and have any chance whatsoever at reaching the top ten? The answer is simple: you’re going to the hard places.
There are different hotspots in Fortnite—different locations with large amounts of loot. The best locations have the best loot, and this means that the better players tend to go here. Because there are more players here, that might be a key component as to why you’re dying so early.
Another component could be that you aren’t grabbing weapons fast enough. Especially if you’re landing at a hotspot like Pleasant Park or Tilted Towers, the top players can grab a weapon within the first ten seconds that they land.
If you’re a lower-level player or someone who doesn’t have as much experience, it could take you up to thirty seconds to find any type of weapon. Because of this, you’re instantly at a disadvantage whenever you’re in a crowded area with tons of players.
You’re not able to loot and raid as fast as the other players, and thus, this can prove to be troubling when it comes to trying to get out of a location alive. Almost always you’ll be one-upped because the top players know exactly where the best weapons and chests spawn, meaning they’ll have the better weapons when it comes down to it.
You don’t want to encounter a player with a purple tactical shotgun when you only have a gray pistol. Once you engage that fight whether you want it or not, you’re almost always projected to lose the matchup, and this is the main reason as to why you might be dying early.
Another reason as to why you might be dying early is because you don’t have enough map awareness around you. Players might be coming from different sides, but you don’t know because you haven’t looked over there, so they get an easy shot at you.
This is the number one reason people die early. If you look at players like Ninja or FaZe TFue, they’re constantly looking around for potential threats which is why they almost always have the advantage over their opponents because they see them before their opponents see them.
Combine these two things together, and you’re going to go through a ton of mayhem especially since you will be taking on different players at once. Take, for instance, going to Tilted Towers. With up to twenty players landing there, not only will you have to be dealing with twenty people, but you’re also going to have to work out getting the loot and keep yourself from being a target.
These two things are the main reasons as to why you’re dying early. Sometimes, these two things seem impossible to fix due to how it can happen over and over again despite you trying different tactics and strategies to shake things up.
Well, I’m here to tell you that these two reasons can easily be fixed with some of the simplest tricks out there, some of which you may not have thought about till you read this article. My job is to educate you on how to peacefully survive in Fortnite, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
How to Stop Dying Early
The concept of not dying throughout the game seems fairly easy since all you’re doing is just avoiding players and that’s actually a key part behind it but there’s also more to it than just it, and that’s what you and I will be going over.
I’m going to split this up into several segments, each of which is as crucial as the one beforehand. I highly suggest that you make sure to pay attention to each segment because altogether, they’ll make you a much better player.
Don’t Land Stupid
What does “don’t land stupid” mean? There are two pieces to what I’m saying. The first piece is that I don’t want you landing in a zone where you know a lot of people are going to go. For instance, going to an area in Tilted Towers with a lot of loot is almost suicide since you know everyone is going to go there.
It sounds crazy, but there are hot spots inside of hot spots. There are areas inside places like Tilted Towers and Pleasant Park which have even more loot than other places inside those little towns or cities.
Going to those places almost always guarantees death or an early-game disadvantage since you could have up to five people vying for one weapon. Instead, try to land in a way which gives you advantage over the other players.
One good example is landing with a height advantage over the others. Landing at the top of a building ensures that you can grab the loot if uncontested and then rain fire down on your opponents without the fear of them coming up at you since they’ll have to build up to reach you.
Plus, since it’s harder to have an abundant amount of resources in the early game, they’ll have a harder time climbing up to get you. Even if they did have a sufficient amount of resources, they’d have to deal with gunfire from above which isn’t easy to fight off.
That being said, make sure you know where you’re going to land and if its location is ideal for a fight. Try landing in cover over landing in the open because that way, it’s harder for them to see where you’re going and get clear shots on you, thus drastically increasing your chances for survival.
Choose Remote Locations
I know this sounds crazy especially since the hot spots like Dusty Divot, Shifty Shafts, Retail Row, etc. are ideal places to land with all the loot it offers. Plus, remote locations might not even have any loot whatsoever.
However, it’s not how it seems. In fact, going to remote locations could actually be your best bet since not many people tend to land there due to the mindset of trying to grab the best loot possible and this means that they’re definitely going to go to the hot spots.
Landing in a remote location almost always ensures that you won’t die early and last until the mid-game provided that you play it right and don’t play suicidal. Most of the fighting happens in the hot spots so avoiding them for a certain amount of time will keep you from dying during the early game massacre.
Also, landing in a remote location doesn’t mean that you won’t be guaranteed bad loot. There are several houses or buildings in the middle of nowhere that offer chests and loot that can match that of locations like Shifty Shafts and Wailing Woods.
Plus, whenever you loot a remote location and start making your way to a hotspot, you have an advantage over the players in the hotspot. If you enter the hotspot correctly—coming in from the side rather than directly entering—then you can actually have the chance at getting easy pickings off of them.
Usually, players inside the hotspot will be somewhat low since they’re going to be fighting off other players of teams and if they’re the survivors, they may have good loot, but most of the time, they’ll also be extremely weak.
Therefore, landing inside a remote location actually isn’t always that bad. You’re almost guaranteed to always make it into the top fifty, and if you enter a hotspot, you can get easy pickings since you’ll have the advantage of surprise three out of five times whenever facing other players in that hotspot.
Combined with the fact that these players usually are low health due to the fights they’ll encounter with other people during the early game in those hotspots; you’ll also have a health advantage. Successfully killing these people also gives you the loot that they stacked up from the other players.
That being said, landing in a remote location is quite ideal for any lower level players or any player in general. The only bad benefit is that you might not get the best loot on drop, but it shouldn’t stop you from continuing onwards because you have a safer chance at making it to the top ten.
Don’t Be Afraid to Disengage
Whenever you enter a fight, it seems silly to disengage because it makes you not only look like a coward but you instantly give up a fight, and that doesn’t seem ideal when trying to get an advantage over the other players.
Actually, disengaging is sometimes the best thing you can do. If you’re in a situation where the other player obviously has the better guns and the better positioning as well as a health advantage, staying is guaranteeing a death sentence.
Disengaging from a fight gives you the chance to rejuvenate and look for better loot. This also gives the other player’s location away meaning that he’s a sitting duck if there are other players around so disengaging gives you a way to peacefully escape from a potential massacre.
But what if the player decides to chase you and go after you? What do you do then? If they chase you, they may seem to have the advantage since you’re on the run, but you can turn it in your favor especially if there’s a small town or city nearby.
Since they’re chasing you, three times out of four, they’re going to think that you are easy bait but stopping at a location—a forest, a village, town, etc.—gives you the opportunity to ambush the player without them knowing.
It provides an opportunity for you to reset and get your weapons for whenever the opponent gets close and as soon as he does get close, you’ll have first shot if he follows your pathing. You can turn the odds in your favor if they come at you whenever you disengage.
However, if you don’t want to fight and disengage peacefully without having to kill that person, then it’s even simpler. Just run. If you’re in a location like Tilted Towers, Pleasant Park, or any other hotspot, then you can use the different buildings or houses to hide or juke them out.
It’s harder if you’re fighting in an open location. If that’s the case, then use your resources to build structures to keep them from getting free shots on you when you run. Keep doing this till you reach a hotspot to hide and rejuvenate.
Disengaging gives you an opportunity to take out an opponent in an unfair fight or gives you a chance to replenish your health bar as well as give you a better chance at making it to the top ten while the other player will actually receive the disadvantage since they’re going to give away their location by firing on you.
So, while you’re safe and tucked away, that other player is going to potentially have the problem of dealing with more than one player coming towards them. Disengaging is the best way to outplay a bad situation and put it in your favor.
Be Stealthy
You don’t want to move slowly or in the open because this gives you obvious vision to other players nearby and an instant disadvantage if they start firing on you because they’ll have the first shot and you’ll still need to figure out where the fire is coming from before engaging on them.
To counteract this, keep yourself from being open to other people. Move through the trees or sprint through the open locations if there’s nothing to hide behind. If you’re in a city or neighborhood hotspot like Pleasant Park or Tilted Towers, crouching while moving keeps yourself from being heard as much.
This is very helpful especially if you don’t want to fight because it’s harder for opposing players to see you. However, if you want to use it to surprise attack someone, it can also work that way.
Being able to move stealthily throughout an area gives you the opportunity to attack an unaware opponent. If they’re in the open farming resources, coming from behind through a forest or using the bushes to conceal will let you have the first shot.
The same goes for when you’re inside a building or house inside a hotspot. If you know that someone else is inside the building, using your location and stealth to your advantage gives you the opportunity to have the first shot whenever you engage.
For instance, if you land on the top of a building but you see someone who lands at the bottom of the house, looting the top of the house and then waiting by the door for the opposing player to come in almost always gives you the advantage to shoot and kill first.
Therefore, be stealthy and move fast without giving away where you are. The best way to do this is by using the buildings and structures to conceal your character and by doing this, you’re almost always guaranteed not to be taken by surprise.
Eyes on the Back of Your Head
In Fortnite, you always want to keep moving. This is because there is a storm that is constantly moving so stopping guarantees death if you choose to stay still. However, that means other players are going to keep moving, and you’re bound to run into someone, and someone is going to run into you.
In the mid game of Fortnite, you’re usually either the one attacking or the one being attacked. There is no in between. It’s a long game of cat and mouse, and you don’t want to be the mouse because you will then have the higher chance of dying.
You don’t want to be on the back end of things since not only will you take damage; you’re going to have to figure out where the fire is coming from before you can counter-attack. So, how do you stop this then? How do you keep players from having the advantage of surprise over you and almost always guarantee a kill on you?
There are two ways you can do this—one way much harder than the other. The first way is to simply start moving away from the storm later than the other players would. This is the harder one since not only will you constantly be trying to out-run the storm, you don’t know when people are exactly going to leave, but you know that a majority of the players will have left.
That means that even if you leave as the storm starts to move, you might encounter someone and engage in a fight. If that fight takes too long, you’ll get caught in the storm, and this can be life-threatening for you.
While this may be inconvenient, it can be thoroughly effective if everything works out and you manage to apply the other previous techniques—like moving stealthily—in your favor. The second way is much easier than the first.
The easier way is to constantly look behind you and at your surroundings, so you know what is going on. I recommend looking around every ten seconds because that gives a time-gap for other players to enter your line of sight.
Also, someone firing from behind is unlikely because that means that they had to have had either a launchpad or something else to gain distance on you so if you aren’t getting fired on from behind, expect it to be unlikely to happen at all in the game.
However, I still recommend you look behind at least once every thirty seconds just to ensure your safety while you should look around every ten seconds so that no opposing threats can get an edge on you in a potential fight.
Be the First to the Point
This may sound contradicting to exactly what I just said about leaving last to keep other players from surprising you on the field but staying ahead of the storm as far as possible can actually give you an even bigger edge.
As you know, after a given amount of time, the space on the island begins to shrink due to a storm. Whenever you’re caught in the storm, you start to lose health. To avoid this, you have to enter the safe-zone: the space on the island that hasn’t been caught inside the storm.
Getting there first gives you the advantage of playing safer because you’ll have the scope of the field and usually, most players tend to leave as late as possible so that they can loot as much as possible before having to go and outrun the storm.
Getting to the point first gives you a perfect chance to hide and wait out any potential threats that come your way. Plus, usually, only the best players can scope out other players who are hiding behind bushes or in buildings from a far range so nine times out of ten, you’ll be okay.
Also, if you’re looking for an easy kill, you’ll usually get one since there’s always that one player or team that comes out of the storm late and on low-health so camping it out in a bush or a building lets you get easy pickings if they come near you.
Most importantly though, you’re already in the safe zone so people can’t get an easy shot on you because you’re there before they are. The only way this wouldn’t work is if either someone has the same plan and you run into them, or they landed at that location and coincidentally manage to run into you.
However, the main point is this. If you want to survive peacefully, try to get to the safe zone as quick as possible. That way, you skip out on all the fights that happen when one is trying to get there. Instead, you’ll get a chance to scope out the surroundings, know which places are ideal for a fight, and how you can use it to your advantage.
You’ll also be able to get easy pickings if anyone gets out of the storm too late and is low on health. Combined with your knowledge of the surrounding, you’ll have the advantage over most of the players on the map while keeping you alive without any threat of death.
How does One Play Safe in the Late Game?
Late game is a little more complicated than the early and mid game since the safe zone is so small, and there are only a few players left. That being said, it seems almost unavoidable to try to kill someone or get caught out.
However, it’s actually quite easy to play safely in the late game if you know what you are doing. What you want to do is apply what I just said before about making it to the safe zone earlier than everyone else. Let’s give an example.
Let’s say that there are ten people left on the map and you’re one of them. By this time, you should be able to predict where the storm is going to move so you can try to move towards the center with an easy prediction of where it’s going to land.
Next, find yourself an ideal spot to hide and keep yourself from the action. This can be a smaller, more isolated building or a bush or a bundle of trees. Either way, make sure no one else can see you unless they get to close.
Then, watch out for the other players. Let them kill each other until there are a few left and by that time, you become the custodian. Your job is to do the cleanup kills. Near the end of the fights, most people will be low health so I wouldn’t be surprised if it took only one or two shots to kill someone.
This is the easiest way to win a Fortnite Battle Royale match without getting into many fights. Sure, it may seem boring and pointless at points but whenever you see those words pop up on your screen, (Victory Royale) it will all be worth it.
Conclusion
So, you’re about to go play another Fortnite match maybe with your friends or with a squad. Either way, I know how frustrating it can be to die over and over or the frustration of winning a fight and being too low on health so that you die to someone you shouldn’t have died to.
Luckily for you, with this article, that shouldn’t be a problem anymore. For instance, now you know how to survive the early game massacre without dying as much. The tips are quite easy. Don’t land in populated areas and if you land in a populated area, land smart and don’t go for too much.
If you’re caught up in a fight, you know how to disengage—use your resources or use your environment to cover the fire—and you can use a disengage to help either ambush your opponent or to replenish yourself for another upcoming fight.
If you need to move a little faster and get away from someone, using houses, trees, and bushes as cover can help you get from Point A to Point B. You can also crouch and move around buildings so you don’t make too much noise.
When trying to move towards a location, you know that you should always be looking around so that you won’t get ambushed by anyone around you—another key factor into staying alive. You also know how many seconds you should take in between your scans.
You know that getting to the safe zone faster can help you avoid any of the fights outside of the safe zone as well as give you the element of surprise for any other players entering the safe zone. Plus, since you already know the environment, you’re expected to win the fight.
Finally, you also know how to play the late game if it comes down to it. With such a small safe zone, you know how to wait out the big fight and then, whenever your time arrives, you can take the remaining players to the town considering that you have both the element of surprise and more health than them most of the time.
All of these tips and tricks are crucial to helping you win another Fortnite match. I understand the frustration you’ve been through—not being able to make it through to the final ten. However, when I applied all of these things to my next game, I soon found it easier to win.
Pros even use these tips. You may seem them play aggressive or play upfront, going to big locations to loot and kill so that they can have an advantage, but they’ve also been seen using these tips to help them whenever they’re having an off-day.
So, whether you’re an amateur or a novice, you can apply these tips to your next game. Don’t forget that Fortnite is a game meant for fun so don’t take it too seriously. Now, go out there and go get your Victory Royale!
