by in Call of Duty | Nov, 17th 2020

Activision and Treyarch released Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War as a mostly complete package for the online multiplayer portion. Instead of waiting for the fan-favorite camos to become available, most of the Black Ops Cold War mastery camos are already here.

Black Ops Cold War Mastery Camos Are Here at Launch

The Black Ops Cold War mastery camos are already here at launch of the game for you to progress towards unlocking. You won’t have to wait for the upcoming Season 1 of content or a future update to access these weapon skins as they are already in the game right now.

This allows players to have a clear goal to work towards as the various weapon camos that you can pick up are pretty extraordinary this time around and include some of the fan-favorite skins in a new and improved design from the past iterations.

Every single weapon in the game can have one of the Black Ops Cold War mastery camos attached to it so long as you can unlock them. This task will take some time in the game, but you can do it if you know what is ahead and what you need to do.

That is where we come in. I will give you our full Black Ops Cold War mastery camos guide to know what you are signing up for. There is a lot to unlocking these stunning weapon camos, but here’s everything you need to know so that you can do it efficiently.

What Are Mastery Camos?

For starters, what are the Black Ops Cold War mastery camos? They are the endgame goal for a lot of players in the Call of Duty community. Sure, the prestige system is important and all, but it can take even longer than that to unlock some of these camos, especially if you are gunning for everyone.

Camos are the weapon skins in the Call of Duty franchise, where you can deck out your specific gun of choice with a unique look for when you are in matches. Since you will spend a lot of time looking at your gun in the first-person view, it might also be a look that you like and are proud of.

While there are the basic camos that you can attach to your weapon and use, they are typically the standard stuff of different camouflage stripes and the like. They aren’t typically that special and just fine when you don’t have one of the better ones unlocked.

But if you can progress through your weapon enough, you will be able to unlock the Black Ops Cold War mastery camos. These are for true grinders who are willing to put in the hours to grind these challenges and unlock the very best camos in the game.

There are three of them that you can unlock. The mastery camos include the popular gold, diamond, and Dark Matter camos. Unlocking all three of them will require some hardcore grinding even to get a single one, but that is where we come in as we have the challenges that you need to complete all right here.

How to Unlock Gold Camo

It is important to go over the first of the three Black Ops Cold War mastery camos, and that is the gold one. On its own, the gold camo is pretty awesome and well worth getting if you aren’t prepared for the grind that it takes to get the other two, as it isn’t too bad at all.

You need to complete some game challenges, but the number of challenges is pretty intense. You need to do 35 challenges to unlock the gold camo because the requirements for it are to have all 35 basic camos unlocked for that specific weapon.

Once you have unlocked all 35 regular camos for a weapon, you will then unlock the gold version of it that you can use in combat. As such, you then need to focus on unlocking all 35 weapon camos that you can get for the particular weapon that you like.

We recommend focusing on the weapon that you prefer more than any other, like your primary weapon that you will use, as this grind will take some time. Each camo that you unlock has a challenge associated with it, like getting so many kills, headshots, and so on.

For example, the most basic weapon that you can unlock camos for is the XM4 assault rifle that is the default one that you have unlocked when you first create your class. If you would like to unlock the Frozen Lake camo for this weapon, you would have to get 100 eliminations in multiplayer.

And that is just a single challenge for one of the camos in the Spray category. There are seven categories of weapon camos in total. You will need to get every single one of them to unlock the gold. Fortunately, all of the camos in a specific category follow the same general formula.

Since the Frozen Lake one focuses on getting kills, the other ones in that category will do the same. As such, we can loop them all together by saying that you have to get 300 kills in multiplayer. You will have all of the camos in the Spray category.

It is a similar situation for the other seven categories. Unfortunately, the challenge requirements vary between weapon categories where some will require more or less kills to complete the challenge. Thankfully, all weapons within the category have the same requirements, so you need to repeat each one.

To start things off, here is the general total number of kills and other objectives that you must complete with all of the assault rifles in Black Ops Cold War to get the gold skin:

  • For all of the Spray camos: Get 300 kills in multiplayer in total
  • For all of the Stripes camos: Get 100 headshot kills
  • Classic camos: Get five kills in a match without dying for any of them 20 different times in total
  • Geometric skins: Get 50 longshot skills from far away in total
  • Flora camos: Get 75 kills in total while the enemies are detected, stunned, or blinded by your scorestreaks, equipment, or field upgrade in multiplayer (this very specific one could be annoying)
  • Science skins: Kill 50 enemies who are taking cover from you
  • Psychedelic: Kill two or more enemies (a double kill) 25 different times in matches

How to Unlock Diamond and Dark Matter Camos

To recap, you need to do all of those above challenges for your specific weapon of choice to unlock the highly coveted gold skin for that particular gun. Keep an eye on whether it is an assault rifle, sniper, SMG, and so on and do the right challenges for that one.

But the progression doesn’t end with unlocking the gold camo for a weapon as there is not one but two more camos that you can still unlock: the diamond and the Dark Matter skins. The diamond one is the first and requires the player to unlock the gold camo for all weapons within a single category.

So, what this means is that let’s say that you get the gold camo for the base XM4 assault rifle. If you would like to get the diamond for it or any of the other assault rifles, you will need to unlock the gold camo for the other four weapons in that particular assault rifle category.

The same goes for sniper rifles, SMGs, and so on. So, it pays to pick a favorite weapon category and focus only on those weapons within it first before moving on to the next one. Doing it this way will unlock the diamond skin for all of the weapons in that particular category.

That sounds easy in theory but will take you the amount of time it took you for the first one times four or five, depending on how many weapons are in a category. You will likely be much more efficient and better as you go, though, since you will have the experience and skill of knowing what to do after doing it once.

But the diamond skin is still not the final camo that you can unlock in the game, as the last one is the impressive Dark Matter one. This skin is truly for the grinders out there who are in it for the long haul. This one requires you to unlock the diamond camo for all nine weapon categories. You will need to unlock all camos for every single weapon in the game, which is pretty wild.
