Fortnite Week 7 Challenges Guide: Catty Corner Balls of Yarn

by in Fortnite | Jul, 30th 2020

Epic Games has released the Fortnite Week 7 challenges in Season 3 of battle royale this week. The missions that players can do this week are pretty varied in content but are largely what you would expect this season. That said, the one exception is the strange Fortnite Catty Corner balls of yarn one.

Fortnite Week 7 Challenges List

The Fortnite Week 7 challenges are here and players have yet another batch of seven missions that you can do for rewards this season. Epic Games continues its trend of releasing missions that are largely copied and pasted from the past week, so you know what to expect here.

The Week 7 challenges list that we have below is taken from the datamine of the battle royale game’s files, so some of them may change upon final release. We have removed the placeholder missions, like eliminating 50 players that are most certainly not being used this week.

You can find the Fortnite Week 7 challenges list below:

  • Search for seven treasure chests at Retail Row
  • Gain 100 health or shields from the slurp at Slurpy Swamp
  • Collect the floating rings at Weeping Woods
  • Find the three Catty Corner balls of yarn
  • Collect 300 stone materials from Rapid’s Rest
  • Search for seven ammo boxes at Pleasant Park
  • Get three eliminations at Sweaty Sands

There are the seven missions that you will have this week. As you can see, most of them are fairly standard and copy what we had in previous weeks, but with a different location as the focus this time around. What is interesting about this week is that we still don’t know anything about the new vehicle type.

The Fortnite cars were supposed to go live last week as one of the challenges then took advantage of the new vehicle type but that week has come and gone. We still don’t have cars in battle royale. This is still unknown at this time, so any car-related missions have been removed this week. Here’s how to do this week’s batch of challenges.

Fortnite Catty Corner Balls of Yarn Challenge Guide

The Fortnite Week 7 challenges are mostly the same, but the one exception that could trip up players some if they don’t know where to go or what to do is the Fortnite Catty Corner balls of yarn challenge. In this mission, players need to head to the new Season 3 named location of Catty Corner.

If you haven’t finished exploring the entire Season 3 island and mapped it out, Catty Corner is a new named location found in the southeastern corner of the map near the mountains. It is southeast of Lazy Lake and south of Retail Row, converting the former landmark factory here into a named location.

This new location has been the focus of several challenges this season, and the Catty Corner balls of yarn mission is no different. This unique task has players needing to find three yarn balls, which is relevant to this location as it has been home to Meowscles in the past and is now home to the mech-riding kitten Kit.

For some reason, cats love this place, and it could be due to the Catty Corner balls of yarn. When you arrive at this location, you need to find all three of them to finish this mission. Though you only need three, there are more than three available as we have found at least four.

We are going to stick to the three that are easiest to find at this time, but keep in mind that there may be more than just these. The first one is directly west of the factory that is the main focus of the named location of Catty Corner.

Here, you will find the vault left over from Season 2 in the outside area. Near it is a green metal container that you can enter inside of, and you will find the first ball of yarn here. Grab this one, and then you need to head south of that location to the big gas station.

There are two Catty Corner balls of yarn that you can find at the gas station. They are enough to complete this mission. One of them is behind the gas station outside on the southern end of it. The other one is actually inside of the gas station on the second floor.

Grab both of these, and you will finish this mission. It is straightforward to finish this challenge in a single battle royale match, but we understand if you get eliminated or run out of time since there will be a lot of players who will be trying to complete the same task together. Fortunately, you can just pick back up from where you left off in the next match.

Where to Find Chests and Slurp

Next up, players need to find seven treasure chests at Retail Row. This is the usual chests challenge that we have every single week, but the location this week is Retail Row near Catty Corner for the last one. This week’s chest challenge is going to be a bit harder than the previous ones.

This is because of a couple of reasons. For one, Retail Row is not the largest named location on the map, so it has the potential to get packed with players who are trying to find these chests so the competition could be fierce.

And then there is the fact that there aren’t a ton of chests found in Retail Row to begin with. Our recommendation is to do this mission in the Team Rumble game mode as it results in fewer players and competition, and not as many enemies who could take you out as you do this.

The best spots to search for chests at Retail Row are in the houses like the attic, basement, and behind the houses. Many players will likely go for the town’s shopping district, so avoiding that area might save you some trouble and help you find chests. As always, you don’t need to get all seven in one match.

For the third challenge this week, players need to gain 100 health or shields from the slurp at Slurpy Swamp. With the recent changes to the map with the water receding, Slurpy Swamp is finally back in all of its radioactive glory. Like before, standing in the glowing blue swampy water will automatically cause you to heal.

What you need to do is run around in the swamp water until you gain 100 health or shields from the radioactive liquid. Again, you don’t have to do this in one match, which is helpful as you would be standing here for a while, vulnerable to other players in the area.

Where to Find the Weeping Woods Floating Rings

For the fourth challenge this week, we have another repeating one fairly new to Season 3: the floating rings mission type. This week, we need to find floating rings at Weeping Woods, which is another location that has triumphantly returned from being submerged in water.

There are five floating rings that you need to get at Weeping Woods and they are all pretty close to one another, which is excellent given how widespread this forest location is. The problem with the floating rings is that they are all pretty high up in the sky.

Fortunately, they are all situated on top of the trees at this location. Your best bet is to gather up materials and/or land on top of one of the five trees from the start of the match. They are each found right along the forest border on the southeastern and eastern side of Weeping Woods.

Two are in the southeastern corner, one is the corner of the forest, and two more are on the eastern forest wall. The rings are pretty large, so it is rather easy to spot them once you are on top of the trees. The only problem is that you will need materials no matter what unless you have a Choppa.

You’ll need to build along the trees to reach all five rings, but this can be easily done in a single match. Just watch out for other players who are doing the same and maybe link up with your teammates to work together to build walkways in the sky to reach these elusive rings.

The following challenge is an easy one, but a strange one, especially if you don’t know this particular location. You need to collect a total of 300 stone materials, but they must all come from the same location: Rapid’s Rest. If you don’t know this location, we don’t blame you as it is a small landmark spot that doesn’t show up on the map.

Fortunately, it is rather close to one named location, so you shouldn’t have a hard time getting there. Rapid’s Rest is a little camping spot right on the major river that is east of Lazy Lake. Simply go directly east from that location, and you will find this landmark location.

But just getting there is half of the challenge as you must harvest 300 stone materials from this location. Unfortunately, the only option for this are the large rocks that are here. There aren’t many, so you could run into trouble with other players, so just grab what you can.

While it is certainly possible to get 300 stone at Rapid’s Rest in one match, it is understandable if you can’t. Just keep heading here in each match you do until you reach the required number.

How to Search Ammo Boxes and Get Eliminations

For the penultimate challenge this week, we have another standard one in the form of ammo boxes. This week, players need to head to Pleasant Park and search for seven ammo boxes there. Pleasant Park has been around throughout Season 3, but it is mostly restored to its former soccer field glory.

All you need to do is head here and look for seven ammo boxes. Your best bet is to check the houses around the neighborhood, especially in the garages and under staircases. Seven is a lot like usual, so be sure to grab as many as you can in each match you do.

For the final mission this week, you have to get your weekly eliminations quota in. For the seventh week of Season 3, you need to head to Sweaty Sands and get three eliminations there. Three can be a lot for some players who don’t like fighting too much, but fortunately, you don’t have to get all three in one match.

So, we recommend heading to Sweaty Sands at the start of the match, gearing up as fast as possible, and then taking out the other players who are still searching for gear. If you can get at least one elimination per match that you do, you should only need a few matches to finish this one up.

Fortnite Week 7 Challenges Rewards

The rewards for the Fortnite Week 7 challenges in Season 3 are the same as in the first six weeks of the season. You will get 35,000 experience per challenge that you do for a total of 245,000 if you can do all of them this week. That will undoubtedly help you on your way to tier 100 before the season ends.
