Fortnite Season 5 Week 9 Challenges Guide: Hidden Bunker, Black Box
Epic Games has released the latest missions for players to complete in the fifth season of Chapter 2 in Fortnite battle royale. The Fortnite Week 9 challenges are here, offering up a slew of quests that range from really easy to more obscure and challenging to accomplish.
Fortnite Week 9 Challenges Are Here
The Fortnite Week 9 challenges are here, signaling the end of the current Season 5. Or, at least, potentially signaling the end of it. At this time, we still don’t know about the end of the current season and when it is scheduled to happen outside of possible leaks.
Epic Games has yet to give us a word about the current season and any possible delays. However, it is looking increasingly likely that there is a delay since we haven’t heard anything about Season 6. There is only one more week left for the regular challenges this season.
Regardless, in the meantime, while we figure out what is happening with Season 5, we still have some quests to do during this time. You can find the full list of the eight Fortnite Week 9 challenges that are available this week below:
- Shakedown an IO NPC enemy
- Find the hidden bunker
- Find the crashed plane’s black box item
- Deal 200 damage while in the water
- Use an emote at the stone statues
- Ride the Steamy Stacks
- Deal 500 damage to a loot shark
- Fortnite Week 9 legendary quest: Shakedown various opponents in matches (five-part, multi-stage quest)
As you can see, the Fortnite Week 9 challenges consist of eight missions in total. There are seven normal ones per usual this season and then an extra one that is the legendary quest that has been added this week for only a limited time.
This week’s theme isn’t as clear as the farm one we had in the Week 8 challenges last week, but it remains an exciting week. We have some tasks that we have never done before. The difficulty this week seems pretty simple overall. But here is everything you need to know about how to do the Fortnite Week 9 challenges this week.
Fortnite Week 9 Challenges Guide: Hidden Bunker Location
This week, we have a challenge that involves shaking down one of the IO guards that you can find on the island in Season 5. IO guards are one of the new NPC enemies that you can find this season, taking the marauders’ place and the like from the past several seasons.
The IO guards are relatively easy to find if you head to specific places on the map. How it works is that these special elevators can spawn in the middle of the island. They will pop up out of the ground and give possible rewards or even have you battle against NPC enemies.
There are many locations of these possible elevators. They are randomly spawned around the map, making it difficult to find them at times. But there is a general area on the island in Season 5 that we prefer to use to find IO guards more easily.
That area is the middle section of the entire island. This is where you can find the Zero Point that is quite literally at the center of this season, the popular destination Salty Towers, the Colossal Coliseum, and even in the middle of Hunter’s Haven on the island.
If you happen to see one of these elevators spawn on the island and see the IO guards there, what you need to do is take one of them out to the point where they are grounded, and their pals are trying to revive them. Then head on over to the downed IO guard and try to shake them down.
This will complete this quest. We recommend doing this with a team as the IO guards are relatively challenging. You need to shake them down, not kill them, for this quest, making it much more difficult overall.
The second mission this week is to find the hidden bunker on the map. You need to find and visit this unique location. Simple enough, right? It is only effortless if you happen to know where the secret bunker location is in Season 5.
There are several of these hidden bunkers on the island, but you seemingly only need to visit one of them for this particular mission. There are a few out there that you can head to, but there is one main one that we recommend going to for this mission.
Due to the simple nature of finding it, we recommend heading to the bunker hidden at the very far north side of the island. There is a little island off of the mainland northwest of Craggy Cliffs and just northeast of Stealthy Stronghold that you can see on the main map.
Here, you will find a little wooden structure on the small island. Break the walls of the wooden structure, and you will find the hidden bunker. Once you have the notification that you have found the hidden bunker, you are good to go on this second mission this week.
Crashed Plane Black Box Location
You need to find the crashed plane’s black box on the Season 5 island for the next mission. To do that, we first need to locate the plane that has crashed onto the island. This plane’s location is easy to find if you head to a particular location on the map.
The area that you need to head to is right near Coral Castle. To the east of the named location is a larger island on the edge of the hollow location. On this island, you will be able to find the remains of a crashed plane that you may have seen before if you’ve headed to this area.
There are several different sections of the crashed plane that you can visit, but the middle of the plane is where we need to be for this particular mission. Near the middle of the crashed plane is the black box that we need for this task. Like the last one, get close enough to it to see the notification pop up that you have finished this quest.
For the fourth challenge this week, you need to deal 200 damage while in the water. This is a particular damage-dealing quest and one that requires you to be swimming or jumping around in the water. Fortunately, there is no shortage of water areas on the island at this time.
We recommend a highly populated water area near a named location like Sweaty Sands, where you are likely to find other players roaming around. Once you have found other players and are in the water, you are ready to complete this mission once and for all.
You need to deal a total of 200 damage while in the water. That is equal to around a player with full health and shields or two players with only full health. It isn’t a lot, but it might be a lot to ask someone vulnerable as they wander around in the middle of the water.
Where to Emote at the Stone Statues
For the next mission, perform an emote at one of the stone statues on the island. Like with the hidden bunkers, several of these are all over the Season 5 map, but we will give you our recommendation for efficiently doing it.
One of the easiest stone statues that you can find on the island for doing this mission is to head to the new Season 5 named location known as Colossal Coliseum. This arena near the center of the island has a couple of stone loot llama statues on the northern end of it.
Head to the entrance on the northern side of the arena and find them there waiting outside the building. Then when you are there, all you need to do is perform your favorite emote. You could also do it at one of the other locations scattered around the map.
Next up is a challenge that we haven’t seen in a couple of seasons, but one that is by far one of the easiest that you could have this week: ride the Steamy Stacks. For those who don’t know, the Steamy Stacks are why the named location in the northeastern corner of the island is named so.
So, if you didn’t already guess it, you need to head to Steamy Stacks to complete this mission this week. When you are there, look for one of the steaming towers that are the main focus of this named location. If you head inside one of these, you will see the smoke rising up.
As you probably already know, jumping here will allow the stacks to blast you into the air and allow you to glide somewhere else safely. You need to do this, effectively “riding the Steamy Stacks,” and you will be good to go for completing this mission.
Fortnite Week 9 Challenges: Legendary Quest
The final normal quest that we have this week is to deal 500 damage to a loot shark on the map. Loot sharks will likely be familiar to those who were part of Season 3 when the map was almost entirely flooded with water and gradually reduced over time.
Loot sharks became a significant focus then as one of the main forms of transportation. You could ride them, attack other players with them, or be attacked by them yourself. What sucks about the loot sharks is that they are increasingly difficult to find than they were in Season 3 at the height of their fame.
But the general rule of thumb is that they will show up in various locations centered around water. So, you might find them near Misty Meadows, around Sweaty Sands, near Coral Castle, by The Shark island, and so on.
These watery-based locations are your best bets for finding one of the loot sharks. Then, when you find one, you need to deal 500 damage to it. This is a lot of damage in total. Your best bet is to grab some pals and try to do this one together as a team. Five hundred damage is a lot, but, fortunately, you don’t have to do this one all in the same match, so feel free to take your time.
The final mission this week is the legendary one that is here for a limited time. This quest is to shakedown opponents, which we have already done this week, so you should be familiar with it. The general idea is to shake someone down who has been knocked down but not eliminated.
For this legendary quest, it follows the formula of other ones by having the player shake down enemies in five increasingly more complicated stages. The first stage is to shake down five opponents, but then it increases by five for each of the following stages until the fifth and final one is 25 in total.
This is recommended for a party of four players as that is a lot, with each player needing to shake down at least six players in total. That can be done in as many matches as you need to, but it might be extremely challenging for teams who struggle with getting a lot of eliminations.
Like with past legendary quests, this is only here for a limited time, but it will grant you experience once you complete a stage rather than making you wait until all five are done to get the full rewards. However, the other weekly quests will be here until the end of Season 5.
