Fortnite Season 5 Week 5 Challenges: Buried Blue Coin, More

by in Fortnite | Dec, 31st 2020

Believe it or not, we are now halfway through the current fifth season in Chapter 2 of Fortnite battle royale. Things are heating up this week as everything revolves around a particularly odd theme in the Fortnite Season 5 Week 5 challenges.

Fortnite Season 5 Week 5 Challenges List

The Fortnite Season 5 Week 5 challenges are here to usher at the end of the first half of the season and the second half. We don’t know how long the season will go on for this time around but, regardless, we have now reached the halfway point of the bounty hunter-themed season

Oddly enough, Epic Games has recovered from the rather uninteresting but still worth doing challenges from last week in Week 4 of Season 5 with some great ones this week. You can find the full list of the Fortnite Season 5 Week 5 challenges below:

  • Find the buried blue coin in Retail Row
  • Dig up a gnome from both Fort Crumpet and Pleasant Park
  • Search through 15 treasure chests or ammo boxes
  • Collect a gnome from Fort Crumpet and Holly Hedges
  • Bury two gnomes in Pleasant Park or Retail Row
  • Deal 1000 damage in total within 10 seconds of resurfacing from the sand
  • Deal 500 damage while crouched
  • Legendary quest in Week 5: Eliminate IO guards (multi-stage quest)

As you can see, there are once again eight missions for players to do this week in Week 5. This week is about strange gnomes for some reason, as we approach the end of 2020 and the beginning of the new year. The gnome theme is weird but strangely consistent.

More importantly, it allows for a more cohesive week, in general, where we are doing several new challenges that we have never done before. They are all going to be difficult enough to keep things fun and interesting. Without further ado, here’s how to do all of the Fortnite Season 5 Week 5 challenges this week.

How to Find the Fortnite Buried Blue Coin

First off, we have a challenge that is one of the most intriguing this week as it is the standard “find something in an obscure location on the map” sort of mission. You need to find the buried blue coin found somewhere in the Retail Row named location on the map this time around.

What you will want to do is first head to the Retail Row location as soon as you can in whatever match you want. We always recommend Team Rumble for this sort of thing since there are fewer players overall who will be there and less competition for the blue coin that looks to be only available for one player per match potentially.

This is because you have to dig up the blue coin as it is buried underground. The location in Retail Row that you need to head to is in the southwestern corner of the map at the house in this corner. This large house has a backyard where there is a small tree.

Next to that tree, a mound is sticking out of the ground very clearly, especially with the snowy patch covering this part of the island currently. All you need to do to dig up this buried blue coin is to swing at it with your pickaxe, and the blue coin will appear. Interact with it, and you will finish this challenge, earning yourself some experience from this blue XP coin in the process.

Next up is to dig up some more items but, this time, we start the gnomes theme this week. You need to dig up a gnome from both the Fort Crumpet location and Pleasant Park. Pleasant Park is easy enough to find as a named location, but the fort is somewhere that you might not know about.

You can find Fort Crumpet just northwest of Sweaty Sands by the coast there. There is a small dirt road that leads to this landmark location. You need to find one of the buried gnomes and dig them up like you did with the blue coin when you get there.

There are a couple of them that we have found at this small fort, but you only need one for this challenge. Like the coin, they are buried and seen from the mound that sticks up out of the ground. Hit them with a pickaxe, and you are good to go for this part.

But you still need to head to Pleasant Park and find one there as well. There are a couple of gnomes here as well, with one at the very northern tip of the named location in the central northern house’s yard. Dig it up like the last one, and you are finished with this particular task.

How to Collect Gnomes

For the next part of the Week 5 challenges, we have the standard treasure chests and ammo boxes challenge. But, unlike past weeks, these two missions are brought together this week into one massive, longer task than we usually have.

You need to find 15 chests and/or ammo boxes throughout the battle royale island. Usually, we only have seven or so, maybe 10 at most, but 15 is a lot more than usual. This will likely take you double the amount of time of the normal version of this mission.

This hard mode treasure chests challenge can be done over time, though, so feel free to grab as many chests as you can in each match that you do until you reach the 15 mark. Team Rumble works well here, too, as you have less competition for chests and more time to look for them around the island.

After that, we have a challenge that requires us to find yet another gnome from two different places: this time, Fort Crumpet and Holly Hedges. You have to find one from each location. We are already familiar with Fort Crumpet, so it should be a lot easier this time around.

But there is a key difference that you should keep in mind when visiting Fort Crumpet: note that the wording on this mission is different from the last one in which you needed to dig up the gnomes. That’s because this time, it is all about just finding a gnome that is already above ground.

There are a couple at Fort Crumpet, with one easily found inside the store on the fort’s northern side. Head inside the store to collect this gnome from behind the cash register. From there, we need to head to Holly Hedges and collect a gnome there, too.

In Holly Hedges, this small town is home to a couple of gnomes, but the easiest to find is on the central northern edge of the town, where the big tree is located. It is right in the fenced-in area. Pick it up, and you are good to go on this particular gnome challenge.

How to Bury Gnomes

Next up, we need to bury a gnome in Pleasant Park or Retail Row. Two must be buried in total, and it doesn’t matter which of the locations you do them in so long as you bury two. To do this quest, you must have completed the dig up gnomes mission first.

That mission gave us access to two gnomes that we were able to dig up from their graves. Now, we need to take those two gnomes and bury them somewhere in Pleasant Park and/or Retail Row. For Pleasant Park, here is the location that you need to head to.

You need to go just south of the town’s middle area where the park and stuff are found. A mound of dirt on the ground and interacting with it will allow you to bury the first gnome there. From there, we need to go to Retail Row, where the second location is found.

There is a pretty easy to find circle located near the south side of Retail Row where we found the blue coin in the first challenge this week. There is a mound near the fence there where you can interact with it and bury another gnome. There are several locations in total that you can use, but these are the ones that we recommend you head to.

The next challenge requires you to deal a whopping 1000 damage within 10 seconds of emerging from the sands. You can do this over time, so don’t worry as you will not have to deal all of the damage in one go, of course. But first, you need to know how to emerge from the sands.

In the desert biome that surrounds the central part of the map near Colossal Coliseum and other locations there, you can hide and sneak around in the sand. This lesser-known feature is possible by merely standing still above the sands for a few seconds.

Your character will sink into the ground and be able to run around like this. You need to sneak up on someone, jump out by using the jump button, and deal as much damage as possible within 10 seconds. Do this as many times as you need to until you have this mission completed.

How to Eliminate IO Guards

For the final normal mission this week, you need to deal 500 damage while crouched. This is a bit easier to accomplish than the last one since you likely already know how to crouch and potentially already do that to sneak up on other players and take them out.

Your best bet is to crouch when you know that someone is nearby, sneak upon them, and then deal as much damage as possible while you are still crouched. Make sure not to jump or anything that would stop your crouching. This is unfortunate since you might be a little bit more vulnerable than usual.

500 damage is a lot, too, and will likely take you some time to complete. This is more than two players with full health and shields or around five players in total who have only full health and no shields. Feel free to take your time with this task.

And for the final quest this week, we have the legendary one. As always, this mission is the only one that is time-sensitive. It will only stick around in the game for a limited time, and then it will leave the game, so be sure to complete it as soon as possible.

It is another multi-stage quest where you need to do something in increasing intervals. This week, you need to eliminate IO guards, some of the new NPCs on the island this season. You need to eliminate 10 of them at the start, followed by 20, then 30, 40, and finally, 50.

There are five stages in total. Fifty NPC enemies are equally a lot. It is highly recommended for parties of four players, so we recommend that you grab a couple of buddies and head into a match together to take out these NPCs.

They can be found roaming around the island in different locations, but we have located them near the middle of the map where the Zero Point and other locations are found. As a group, you should take out 50, but it could take you a good while, so good luck!

Fortnite Season 5 Week 5 Challenges Rewards

This week, the rewards are mostly the same as they have been this entire season. The normal missions that we have this week will give you 22,000 experience each for a hefty amount altogether. Meanwhile, the new legendary quest will provide you with 55,000 for the first stage and then more experience from there for each of the stages you complete.

We are now halfway through Season 5 so getting as much experience as possible is imperative for those who want to ensure that they can make it to tier 100 in time for the end of the season. We don’t know for sure if this season will last only 10 weeks or more than that, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.
