Fortnite Season 3 Week 5 Challenges Guide: Find Steamy Stacks Floating Rings
Epic Games has released the Fortnite Week 5 challenges for players to complete this week in Season 3. As with any week this season, there are several different missions to do, many of which are rather familiar, including the Fortnite Steamy Stacks floating rings task that is similar to past weeks.
Fortnite Week 5 Challenges List
The Fortnite Week 5 challenges are here this week, so you know what that means: We are now officially halfway through the current third season of the second chapter. Well, at least, we are halfway through the normal 10 weeks of battle royale challenges for now.
It is likely that the season will continue the trend of the first two seasons this chapter and go beyond the normal 10-12 weeks due to eventual delays and whatnot, so this is only halfway for the normal missions this season. But that is a momentous occasion nonetheless, as this season has flown by already.
With this halfway point in Season 3, the challenges are established and in a set rotation at this point. You can find all of the new ones that are available this week below:
- Search for seven chests at Sweaty Sands
- Get three eliminations at Retail Row
- Use a firefly jar or flare gun at Misty Meadows
- Land at The Yacht and finish in the top 25 of that match
- Catch five fish at Craggy Cliffs
- Upgrade a weapon at Salty Springs
- Collect four Fortnite Steamy Stacks floating rings
As you can see, Epic Games has established this season will have seven challenges each week, much like many of the past seasons in Chapter 1 but unlike the first two seasons of this particular chapter. And in addition, the challenges are on a set rotation so they are very similar to Week 4.
For instance, there is almost always going to be a chest, eliminations, landing, and so on challenge that players must do. Plus, the floating rings mission type seems to be recurring this season as well, with each week focusing on a different named location that you must visit for it.
Without further ado, let’s dive right in and take a look at how to complete all of the Fortnite Week 5 challenges.
Where to Find the Fortnite Steamy Stacks Floating Rings
First up is the Fortnite Steamy Stacks floating rings challenge. If you have been doing the missions each week this season, this rather new mission type will be pretty familiar to you. Nearly every single week this season, there has been a new floating rings mission that you need to do.
This week, in particular, it is all about the Steamy Stacks floating rings. So, if you want to complete this mission, you should head to Steamy Stacks at the start of the battle royale match. As usual, there is a specific game mode that we recommend that you do for this mission.
And like most of the time, we recommend that you do this mission in the Team Rumble game mode. This particular mode is best suited for missions like this one where you need to take the time to find several different items, preferably all within the same match.
Since Team Rumble isn’t a traditional battle royale game mode, you are able to take your time with the challenge as you have more time than usual to look around the named location for these rings. In addition, there are fewer players overall in this type of match with only up to 40 altogether.
There are more players on your team with up to 20 in total and not a lot of enemies that you need to worry about with 20 on their side. With this being the case, it means that you will have more time and less competition when it comes to finding the Steamy Stacks floating rings.
This is important as if you’ve done previous weeks right when they come out, what you might find is that a lot of players are heading to the exact same four locations in a small area and doing them at the same time. This can create a lot of fights and deaths before finishing the task, which is why the respawns in Team Rumble are great.
As for the locations of the four Steamy Stacks floating rings, they are all actually in some rather unique locations here. Basically, they are all rather high up in the sky, making this one the hardest of the floating ring missions that we have had until now this season.
What this means is that you need to head to the two stacks themselves and use their air to blast you up until the sky or use a Choppa to fly around and grab them all. The four rings are conveniently placed in the west, north, east, and south locations by the two steaming stacks.
The south one, in particular, is really close to the southern stack, so it is easy to just start there and go around clockwise or counter-clockwise, grabbing each of the rings as you go. The north and east ones, in particular, are pretty far away from the stacks above the ocean so be sure not to miss them when floating in the air as they are small but the blue does stick out.
If you are unable to get all four of the Steamy Stacks floating rings in one go, be sure to get the remaining ones in the next match. This is possible, but it needs to be all four of them for this mission to be completed, so make sure not to miss any.
How to Find Chests and Get Eliminations
With that hefty and challenging first mission out of the way, we can go to the next one. This one is to search for seven chests at Sweaty Sands. If you have been doing challenges not just this season but for several seasons, you will likely know this challenge rather well.
It is one of the recurring missions that we get just about every single week and this week, we need to find seven treasure chests at Sweaty Sands. As always, these are a lot of chests that you need to find but you don’t have to find all of them in the same exact match.
As long as you get seven, you can do this mission in as many matches as you need to. That said, we do recommend trying to grab two or three at Sweaty Sands per match so that you don’t take forever trying to do this one task. Team Rumble is really good for this one, as you have fewer people to worry about taking all of the chests at Sweaty Sands. Head here and get to work.
Next up is another recurring mission type and this is the eliminations one. You need to get three eliminations this week at Retail Row. Since this is one of the seven challenges this week, there are going to be a lot of players that will likely head to Retail Row.
If you are able to get into a Team Rumble match where the circle is centered around Retail Row, that is great for this mission as you should be able to get three eliminations there rather easily then. But if not, your best bet is to do a normal battle royale match for this one.
And don’t worry about getting all three in one match, as you can just aim for one elimination per match you do and you’ll have this done in a short period of time.
How to Use a Firefly Jar or Flare Gun
For the fourth challenge this week, we have a rather unique one that we haven’t really seen before in Fortnite. You need to use a firefly jar or flare gun at Misty Meadows. Well, the latter part of this challenge is easy as you just need to head to Misty Meadows.
But the firefly jar and flare gun part might be strange to you if you have never come across these items or used them before. They are both new to Season 3 and have some similar properties and uses. Starting with the flare gun, this is an extremely rare item that has a less than 10% chance at best of finding it.
To find it, you need to look in supply drops, llamas, and chests with rare chests giving you better odds of finding one. Given how difficult it can be to come across a flare gun for this mission, it isn’t the most reliable option and could take you a really long time to find it.
On the other hand, the firefly jar is a lot easier to get a hold of. Every player will likely start the match with an empty jar and this is what you can use at Misty Meadows once you have filled it up with fireflies. To get fireflies, you will need to head to the coast somewhere on the Season 3 map.
These fireflies are fairly common on the coast near the water, but your mileage may vary for where they exactly show up as they aren’t the easiest to find at times, especially when it isn’t nighttime. Overall, these two items make this mission harder than it needs to be.
And then there is the fact that once you finally find one of these items, you need to then head to Misty Meadows and use them there. The flare gun is more versatile than the firefly jar and can deal damage to enemies, mark them, and light them on fire. The firefly jar can just deal damage and light things on fire, but both are very useful this season.
Another mission this week is to land at The Yacht and finish in the top 25. This is another standard task but the catch this week is that you need to head to the former named location of The Yacht that is found in the northern central section of the map.
Head here and then do your best to survive to the point of being in the top 25 of the match. For this one, we recommend doing a solos battle royale match.
How to Catch Fish and Upgrade a Weapon
The penultimate mission this week is to catch five fish at Craggy Cliffs. The former named location is still mostly submerged and hasn’t returned to its former stature just yet, but can still be found on the northern end of the island in Season 3, close to The Yacht.
When you get here, you need to find a fishing rod, which isn’t too hard. These can be found in chests and on the ground as loot. Pick one up and head to the beach at Craggy Cliffs and start fishing. You need to get five fish, which is a lot but you can take your time with this and do it across multiple matches if you need to.
Last but not least, you need to upgrade a weapon at Salty Springs this week. This one requires you to head to Salty Springs, which is a small area. Find the upgrade station there. Once you have located it, you need to upgrade one of your weapons.
To upgrade, you will need materials so be sure to grab some of every material type beforehand and you will need a good amount to make this happen. Once you have enough materials, upgrade any weapon and you are good to go.
Fortnite Week 5 Challenges Rewards
Like previous weeks, there aren’t any special rewards that you will find for completing all seven of these missions this week. But you will get valuable experience that will help you reach that coveted tier 100 in the Season 3 battle pass. Every one of the seven missions in Week 5 will give 35,000 experience towards your level.
