Call of Duty Warzone Rebirth Island Map Guide
Call of Duty Warzone has entered the next phase of its life with the release of Season 1. This new season is massive for the battle royale game and includes the new Warzone Rebirth Island map.
New Call of Duty Warzone Map Is Here in Season 1
With the release of Season 1 of Call of Duty Warzone, battle royale fans have a lot to look forward to in this impressive new batch of content for the game. It isn’t even a year old yet, and it already has a ton of new stuff for players to check out, and it is all for free, minus the paid battle pass and all that jazz.
You don’t have to pay anything at all or even buy Modern Warfare or Warzone’s new companion Black Ops Cold War to enjoy all of the new Warzone Rebirth Island map, new game mode, and so much more. It is all waiting here for you in this free-to-play, massively successful title.
There is so much to check out this season. That isn’t even considering that it is now connecting with Black Ops Cold War rather than Modern Warfare for most of its content. That means new weapons, items, and more to use in battle royale.
All on top of the already existing Verdansk map, the Warzone Rebirth Island map is the brand new, second map to ever debut in the game. There is so much happening this season that can be overwhelming. We will give you our full guide to the new map, so you know everything you need to know about it since it is available right now.
How to Play the Warzone Rebirth Island Map
First and foremost, there is the issue of actually playing the new Call of Duty Warzone Rebirth Island map. For some reason, Raven Software and the other developers behind Warzone have made it surprisingly difficult to access this new location in the battle royale game.
You would think that the game would want to showcase its new map at the center of Warzone so that you would jump into it and see the new location that the developers worked so hard on making. But, lo and behold, it can be pretty weirdly complex trying to jump into the new area.
The Call of Duty Warzone Rebirth Island map is hidden within the battle royale lobby’s menus. It will take some investigating to find it and join the queue for it. For some reason, Verdansk is still the show’s star, despite the new kid on the block in Season 1.
As such, when you jump into Warzone right now, at least at the start of the season, it is challenging to find Rebirth Island as the game will default to putting you in Verdansk. But you can play the new map; it will just take some poking around in the menus to do so.
When you go into the lobby to queue up for a new online match, you will see the various modes you can do. It will show you stuff like battle royale, Plunder Trios, and so on. There are the practice modes, trials, and other options there on the left side of the screen.
There is no actual mention of the new Rebirth Island map for some odd reason. You need to select the Resurgence Trios game mode that is available in the list of possible modes available at this time. There is no clear indication at the start that this is the Rebirth Island map, but that is the case.
This is the only way to access Rebirth Island at this time. When you enter the queue, if you’re concerned about doing Verdansk by accident, be sure to look at the map that will show once the match is getting ready to start in the corner of the screen or how many players are in the match.
You can still back out of a match for a few seconds before everyone loads into it if you do end up in a match you don’t want to be in without having to deal with a penalty or anything like that. It is a strangely complicated and vague way of handling things, but this could change soon.
New Resurgence Game Mode Explained
The only possible option to play the Call of Duty Warzone Rebirth Island map at the start of the first season is to select the Resurgence game mode. This means that you can only play this game mode on the new map, so it is important that you know everything there is to know about this mode.
Resurgence is another of the new pieces of content launched in Season 1 and is exclusive to only the new Rebirth Island. You will not be able to play this mode on Verdansk at this time. This new game mode matches the smaller nature of the island map by having only 40 players in a lobby, instead of 150 or the other larger numbers in normal Warzone.
The up to 45 players have a relatively standard battle royale match where you are on a team of players battling it out to be the last squad standing in the match but with a couple of twists. The first major twist is that you can respawn in this game mode differently.
It is more like a traditional online multiplayer game mode in that you respawn with a timer that counts down. Once the timer has gone down, you are ready to hop back into the match. The problem is that the countdown is every 30 seconds or so, bringing every dead person back into the match for another chance.
This is not using the Gulag system as you may be used to in the regular Verdansk battle royale matches and, instead, focuses solely on making sure that you can respawn every 30 seconds. However, your team will not have any more respawns in two different scenarios.
Like with the Gulag, the respawns completely come to an end once the final circle has closed in, so you need to make your final stand count then as it will be your last chance to win. Also, there will be no more respawns for a team once they have all died in the match.
Once your team is wiped out, that is the end of the road for your team. But so long as at least one player is standing on your team still, you will be able to keep coming back until the final circle arrives. It is this delicate balance that players have to figure out to win.
If you find yourself down to one player, that player will need to do everything they can to stay alive until the others come back, but something will make this even more difficult. Whenever you take someone out in Resurgence, it will highlight their other teammates for a brief moment.
You will be able to know their general location so that you can find them and finish them off before the player you just took out comes back to life. It is an exciting and intense cat-and-mouse chase across a map that isn’t that huge like Verdansk.
Rebirth Island Locations and Setting
The Rebirth Island map is in a location that will be very familiar to those of you who have played Black Ops 4’s Blackout battle royale game mode or even Call of Duty Mobile recently. It is the Alcatraz island map from those two games brought back for another chance at the spotlight.
Now known as Rebirth Island, this special version of the island is set in the 1980s, like the rest of Black Ops Cold War, and is themed around that game’s settings. The general backstory is that this prison has turned into a chemical facility for developing the famous Nova 6 gas from the series by the ex-KGB operator Stitch who is also available this season.
Here are the 11 named locations that you can visit on the small island:
- Bioweapon Labs
- Chemical Engineering
- Decon Zone
- Prison Block
- Construction Site
- Nova 6 Factory
- Living Quarters
- Security Area
In addition to those new locations on the map, a unique Gulag arena exists below the Prison Block, where players would generally go when they die in a match. You have to deal with a special chamber with metal detectors in its two hallways to allow for varied methods of winning in classic one on one duels.
For some odd reason, though, this new Gulag location is unavailable in Rebirth Island currently since we only have the Resurgence game mode where it is locked. Plus, the fact that we only have a trios mode is strange since we know that four-player squads mode is coming at some point, but we will have to wait for that. Stay tuned as we imagine that Rebirth Island’s selection of modes will only grow throughout the season.
Rebirth Island Event and Challenges
To celebrate the launch of the Call of Duty Warzone Rebirth Island map, there is a special Rebirth event going on in the game until Jan. 4. That is a few weeks to complete the 16 challenges that are now available and receive their associated rewards.
