Call of Duty League Rokkr Home Series Weekend Preview

by in Call of Duty | Jun, 12th 2020

It is that time once again where the Call of Duty League will kick into high gear and offer players and fans around the world the chance to check out some of the best Modern Warfare action around. This weekend, it is finally time for the Call of Duty League Rokkr Home Series Weekend.

Call of Duty League Rokkr Event Is Happening After Delay

Minnesota Rokkr is now the first team in the history of the league that is hosting a second event. It first hosted the Launch Weekend way back in January that kickstarted the first season and gave each team a chance to earn some early points.

But now, it is time for the first Call of Duty League Rokkr Home Series Weekend tournament where only eight of the 12 teams in the league will compete for points and the chance to rise through the ranks. The long-awaited event comes after a short delay that set it back some.

It was originally meant to happen last weekend, with the next event in the league to be next weekend, but the Rokkr tournament was pushed back by Activision due to the events that are ongoing around the United States and has since spread to the world.

With protests and the Black Lives Matter seeking change in this country and the rest of the world against racial injustice, it was understandable that the league organizers would want to push back one of the tournament events to make sure that all of the attention was on what matters, especially given who the hosts of this particular event are.

Rokkr Tournament Start Date and How to Watch

Now that one-week delay is up, it is time for the Call of Duty League Rokkr event to kick off this weekend. It will start today, Friday, June 12 and will go through the weekend, ending on Sunday, June 14. Three days of competition are in store and they look to be the wildest yet.

As I will get into in a little bit, this weekend has the strongest lineup of teams that will be competing thus far in the entire league’s Home Series Weekend events. As such, it is highly anticipated as it could be the place that some of the best teams are put in their place and others rise to the challenge.

If you are wanting to watch the exciting matches in store live as they happen, be sure to head on over to the Call of Duty League YouTube page so that you don’t miss out. If you aren’t able to watch it live, the matches will be available on-demand afterward for easy viewing.

But if you are looking to earn some rewards while you watch the events live, be sure to not watch on the YouTube channel but sign in with your Call of Duty account and watch on the official league website or Call of Duty app. This will let you earn rewards that are based around the 12 teams as well as some awesome double XP and the like, but it has to be live.

Minnesota Rokkr Weekend Teams and Groups

The upcoming Call of Duty League Rokkr event will feature eight of the 12 teams as always. You can find the eight teams that will be competing this weekend below:

  • Toronto Ultra
  • Los Angeles Guerrillas
  • Atlanta FaZe
  • Seattle Surge: Hosts of the previous tournament
  • Florida Mutineers
  • Chicago Huntsmen
  • Dallas Empire
  • Minnesota Rokkr: Hosts of this weekend’s event

The eight teams will be divided into two groups for the first two days of competition, leading into the finals round on Sunday. Group A features Atlanta FaZe, Seattle Surge, Dallas Empire, and the hosts Minnesota Rokkr. Meanwhile, Group B has the Los Angeles Guerrillas, Toronto Ultra, Florida Mutineers, and Chicago Huntsmen.

Needless to say, these groups and the event as a whole are stacked with the best teams in the entire league. The top five teams on the scoreboard right now are in this event, all together, for the first time since the launch weekend in January.

Current Call of Duty League Standings

But before I jump into the predictions and matches, it is important to take a look at the Call of Duty League standings currently before the Minnesota Rokkr event, as it is likely to greatly change soon.

Here are the standings right now before the tournament starts from first place to last place:

  • Chicago Huntsmen
  • Atlanta FaZe
  • Dallas Empire
  • Minnesota Rokkr
  • Florida Mutineers
  • London Royal Ravens
  • OpTic Gaming LA
  • Paris Legion
  • New York Subliners
  • Toronto Ultra
  • Seattle Surge
  • Los Angeles Guerrillas

The stakes are higher than ever before, as many of these teams are one or two wins away from taking out the team in front of them, if not more than one team. And while teams like Chicago and Minnesota are up there, they do have the advantage of having participated in one more event than teams like Atlanta and Dallas, so there is no telling how this could change the standings.

Known Match Schedule

Here is the currently known match schedule that is being used for the Call of Duty League Rokkr Home Series Weekend event. As of right now, we only know what will happen today on Friday. Saturday and Sunday are up in the air, even though the first few matches on Saturday are likely already set.

But even still, we only know about the four matches that will take place today. Even with that little information, the first day of competition is perhaps the most exciting out of all of the league events that have happened thus far, due to two particular match ups.

Day one will kick off at approximately 1 p.m. PT (4 p.m. ET) today, June 12, and will feature the first match of Toronto Ultra versus Los Angeles Guerrillas. Both teams are right there near the bottom of the leaderboard, however, both have been changing things up so this could be an interesting one.

The second match will happen right after at 2:30 p.m. PT and feature Atlanta FaZe take on Seattle Surge. This is by far the most uninteresting match of the event that we know, for reasons I’ll get into in a moment. The third match is where things started to get a little bit more heated.

It will take place at around 4 p.m. PT and feature the two top five teams of Florida Mutineers against Chicago Huntsmen, the latter of which is currently standing at the top of the leaderboards. This will be followed by the fourth and final match of the first day.

The final match this evening will be at 5:30 p.m. PT and be the marquee match of the night, and boy is it the marquee one this time around. Dallas Empire will take on Minnesota Rokkr; two teams that are right next to each other in the standings.

Match Predictions for Day 1

Given how overwhelmingly stacked this event is, this is going to be possibly the hardest event ever in the league’s history to predict. The top five teams are here and they are ready to battle it out to truly determine who is the best of the best among them.

In this way, it is almost like a potential preview of how the Call of Duty League Championships could play out later this year in August. But for now, we have this amazing, stacked weekend to look forward to. For my predictions, I am going to first go through the four matches we know about.

The first match is Toronto Ultra versus Los Angeles Guerrillas. While neither team is super likely to make it to the final day of the event, I do think that this match could be a really fun one that could show off the strengths and weaknesses of both of them.

Both teams are near the bottom of the standings, but they have each improved and changed things up recently. Toronto, in particular, made it to a finals round for the first time recently and this gives them an edge that, if I were to guess, I would put my prediction on them winning but the Guerrillas could shine through here as well.

Next up is Atlanta FaZe versus Seattle Surge, the latter of which hosted the previous tournament. I won’t spend too much time on this match, as FaZe is still regarded by me as the best team in the league currently and, so, it shouldn’t be too difficult of a win for them here.

Next up is where things get super interesting as Florida Mutineers face off against Chicago Huntsmen. If it weren’t for how things went in the last couple of events, I might have put my guesses 100% on Florida here. But the team has faltered a lot in recent events and could potentially be struggling some.

After all, their last event was their own Home Series Weekend where they couldn’t make it out of the group stage, despite being better than nearly all of the teams there up until that point. While Chicago Huntsmen are number one right now, they have continuously struggled against Florida.

This makes for a really hard match to predict, as both teams are in a weird place. But, hopefully, these past few weeks of being off have helped Florida out. Solely because of their track record of beating Chicago, I am going to go out on a limb and say they can come back here and defeat the Huntsmen in this match.

Last but not least, there is the marquee match of Dallas Empire versus Minnesota Rokkr. This is another hard match to predict, despite the results that we know of currently. For one, Minnesota, like Florida, has struggled a bit in the recent tournaments.

In a way, it is worse off than Florida as it has failed to make it out of the group stage in the last two events. This is tough to recover from and I do hope that being the hosts will help. But then there is Dallas Empire, one of the most consistent teams to date.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen them in action, but I do not doubt that they will show up with full force today. These two are sort of rivals, having met on the battlefield twice now and each team walking away with a decisive win. It’s tough, but because of how Rokkr has struggled recently, I place my predictions on Dallas Empire winning this match.

Winner Predictions

From here, we come to the question of who will win it all this weekend? This is the toughest event to predict, as we have no idea what the matches will be on day two. But I will try nonetheless. From my predictions on day one, Toronto, Atlanta, Florida, and Dallas will emerge as the leaders coming into day two.

Atlanta will take on either Dallas or Minnesota, which is going to be tough if it ends up being Dallas but could be either way. Both teams are the only ones who have beaten FaZe up until this point, so they are the only ones we know of capable of taking down this juggernaut of a team.

But given how Rokkr has been, I do think Dallas is the only team that can do it. If Atlanta takes on either team, I will stand by that I think they will come through and beat either one, even Dallas, because they have the slight win advantage against each other. This will make them the first group winner.

On the other hand, we have Seattle Surge who will fight either Dallas or Minnesota. Either way, I think Seattle will lose the match. What this tells me is that either Dallas will confirm its move into the finals here or we will have to see another match if Minnesota wins.

This will make things go into the tiebreakers between Minnesota and Dallas again where I think Dallas will ultimately emerge as the second team from Group A but it is slightly up in the air even Rokkr can make a comeback. On the Group B side of things, it is a bit more predictable. Well, sort of.

We have Chicago who will take on LA or Toronto in their second match. Either way, I think Chicago will get the win, making them the Group B winner. From here, it comes down to how this rest has affected Florida. It is fully capable of beating both teams, and I think it will through the tiebreaker round.

This will make the two teams from Group A Atlanta FaZe and Dallas Empire, Group B emerging with Chicago Huntsmen and Florida Mutineers. This is a star-studded finals round where Atlanta would face off against Florida Mutineers and Dallas Empire against Chicago.

In the Atlanta and Florida match, I see no reason why FaZe shouldn’t win this match and make it to the final match of the event. When it comes to Chicago and Dallas, though, this is tougher. Dallas has beaten Chicago but only once whereas they have lost to the Huntsmen several times. Could Dallas win?

Absolutely, but for the sake of excitement purposes, I am going to say that Chicago wins this match. This leads to the grand finale that everyone has been waiting for since day one: Atlanta FaZe versus Chicago Huntsmen. For some reason, this match up hasn’t happened yet and that is a darn shame.

Arguably, the two best teams in the league haven’t even fought each other once, so it is an unpredictable match, to say the least. It could go either way, but knowing Atlanta’s better track record and play style, I do think that they would win this match and claim the win for this event. Stay tuned for the full results to see how wrong I am in the coming days.
