Call of Duty League London Royal Ravens Home Series Preview

by in Call of Duty | Jul, 17th 2020

Activision is hosting the next Call of Duty League Home Series Weekend this weekend. Shortly after the last one, the league isn’t slowing down at all and is picking things back up with the Call of Duty League London Royal Ravens Home Series Weekend, and it is shaping up to be a great one.

Call of Duty League London Royal Ravens Home Series Is Special

The Call of Duty League London Royal Ravens Home Series Weekend tournament is a special one for the league’s first season. For starters, this event will be the penultimate Home Series Weekend event that will happen in the league’s inaugural season.

This means that there is only one more left after this event this weekend and then it is time for the playoffs at the end of the first season. But beyond that, it is special for several other reasons as well. There is the fact that it is hosted by London, a team that has now broken a record.

The London Royal Ravens are the first time in the Call of Duty League’s history to host not one but two Home Series Weekends. The other teams have only hosted one. Some teams still haven’t hosted any, and won’t by the end of the season.

There is Minnesota Rokkr that technically has hosted two events, the first being the launch weekend. However, London remains the only team to host two Home Series in the same season and remain the only one, at least until Season 2 begins next year.

If you are interested in checking out this very special Call of Duty League London Royal Ravens Home Series Weekend, you can do this weekend hot off of the last one hosted by the New York Subliners last weekend.

The London event will begin later today, Friday, July 17, through the weekend for three days of total competition, ending on Sunday, July 19. The matches start at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) today and continue throughout the weekend through the group stage and into the finals.

If you want to watch the Home Series as it is live, there are a few ways you can do so. The first is by heading on over to the Call of Duty League YouTube channel where all of the matches will happen live. You can also watch on the league website on both mobile and desktop or through the official app. The latter two are the only ways to earn drops for Modern Warfare.

Teams and Groups for London Home Series

Like in previous events this season, only eight of the 12 teams in the league will participate this weekend. Four of the teams will only get a short break from last weekend’s event before their next one, and four of the teams this weekend aren’t getting any break at all.

Here are the teams that will participate in the event this weekend:

  • Dallas Empire
  • Paris Legion
  • Seattle Surge
  • London Royal Ravens
  • Los Angeles Guerrillas
  • New York Subliners
  • Florida Mutineers
  • OpTic Gaming Los Angeles

As always, the eight teams this weekend will be split into two groups that will play the first two days in those groups to find out who will move onto the finals of the event. Group A consists of the hosts of the event, London Royal Ravens, Seattle Surge, OpTic Gaming LA, and Florida Mutineers.

On the other hand, Group B has Paris Legion, Dallas Empire, New York Subliners, and Los Angeles Guerrillas. Before the last weekend’s event, this wasn’t going to be exactly an exciting one compared to the final event of the season and others but has become more exciting for various reasons.

Final Normal Season Event for 4 Teams

For one, there is the exciting point that this event is the final one of the normal season for four of the 12 teams in the Call of Duty League. That’s right, this weekend means everything to those four teams and the other four teams participating shouldn’t slack either as this is almost it for them, too.

This is because those teams have already played all but one of the Home Series events that they have for the first season. So, whatever happens this weekend is it for them. This will be their final leaderboard points and potentially place for the inaugural season.

Those four teams are the New York Subliners, Paris Legion, Los Angeles Guerrillas, and the hosts London Royal Ravens. This is their last chance to earn some points before the end of the season and, hopefully, get as high as possible in the leaderboard in time for the playoffs.

Current Call of Duty League Standings

To understand where we are currently in the Call of Duty League, let’s take a look at the standings as they lead into the Call of Duty League London Royal Ravens Home Series Weekend. The standings are a bit different than they were a couple of weeks ago. They will likely change here.

Here are the current standings in the league from first place to last place:

  • Atlanta FaZe
  • Chicago Huntsmen
  • Florida Mutineers
  • Dallas Empire
  • New York Subliners
  • Minnesota Rokkr
  • London Royal Ravens
  • OpTic Gaming Los Angeles
  • Paris Legion
  • Toronto Ultra
  • Seattle Surge
  • Los Angeles Guerrillas

As you can see, there have been shakeups lately in the Call of Duty League season like the top five getting shook up basically for the first time since the start of the season. The top five teams were set in stone from the start but that changed last weekend with New York Subliners taking the place of Minnesota Rokkr, the latter of which won’t be in this event.

On the other hand, teams like OpTic and Paris have been tied up for a while now. Both teams will likely be vying for the opportunity not to start in the lower bracket during the playoffs season. So, they will need to give it their all this weekend.

And lastly, there is Florida Mutineers. We will dive into them later in this post as we give our predictions, but lately, they are on a roll. They could very well be your Season 1 champions. This could be the weekend where Florida attempts to go for not only the number two spot on the leaderboard but also Atlanta’s long-standing No. 1 spot.

Match Schedule for Day 1

Before we jump into our predictions for this Call of Duty League London Royal Ravens Home Series Weekend, let’s go over the match schedule that we know about currently.

There are four matches scheduled at this time, with each of the eight teams participating in a single match. The first match of the day will be Dallas Empire versus Paris Legion that will kick things off in this rather earlier than usual match.

Not a normal match will strangely follow this, but the marquee match of the night still in the middle of the day for those of us in North America. This is likely because London is the host this time around, so the league organizers likely changed the schedule around to better suit them.

London Royal Ravens will have their marquee match second today against Seattle Surge. This will be followed by the third match of the day, which will be Los Angeles Guerrillas versus New York Subliners. Then the day will end with the fourth and final match of Florida Mutineers versus OpTic Gaming LA.

Day 1 and 2 Match Predictions

Now that we know the schedule, let’s go ahead and jump into our predictions for what will happen this weekend. The Call of Duty League London Royal Ravens Home Series Weekend will kick off with the first match of the day being Dallas Empire versus Paris Legion.

Dallas Empire is a great team, but it can sometimes range from amazing to good and depends on the situation. Though they have been one of the most consistent teams around, this event will be interesting. That said, this should be an easy win for Dallas.

Next up is the marquee match of London Royal Ravens and Seattle Surge. We haven’t seen these two go up against one another too much, but given how London is doing a bit better these days and hosting this event, we will give this win to them, but it likely won’t be an easy one.

The third match of the day will be Los Angeles Guerrillas versus New York Subliners. New York is on a great run right now and ending the season with this event, so we don’t expect anything less than a nice win right here from the Subliners against Los Angeles.

The fourth and final match of the day will be the Florida Mutineers versus OpTic Gaming Los Angeles. OpTic is perhaps the strangest team in the league as they are randomly really awful and then suddenly amazing enough to take down teams and make it to the finals. That said, we see Florida winning this one pretty easily but don’t count anything out these days.

With those first matches now out of the way, they determine what we think the day two matches will be like. Given the results of the first match, the Group A winners match will be Florida Mutineers and London Royal Ravens. This is an interesting one as both teams have beat each other before.

Given that this is the London event and their final event of the season, this could be a situation where London could come out on top. But given how Florida has been dominating the league lately, we will say that Florida will win this match and move onto the finals.

This will be followed by the Group B match of Dallas Empire and New York Subliners. This is another one where these two teams haven’t shown their stuff against each other yet. But they are close in the leaderboards, so we could see it go either way. Even still, our bets are on Dallas Empire for this one who will move into the finals.

For the Group A knockout match of OpTic Gaming LA and Seattle Surge, this has potential to be a close one as the two teams are both attempting to break out of the leaderboard rut they are in. For this one, we will give it to OpTic Gaming, who may show up this weekend.

The next match will be Paris Legion and Los Angeles Guerrillas. Again, this could go either way, but based on past matches, we will give this one to Paris. This will lead to another tiebreaker match between Paris Legion and New York Subliners, where we think the Subliners should have no problem winning.

The final match of the day will then be London Royal Ravens versus OpTic Gaming LA. They are roughly matched up when it comes to past history, but we are going to go wild on this one and say that even though London are the hosts, OpTic Gaming LA will step up once again and win this match.

Day 3 and Winner Predictions

This will lead to a finals event where we will have Florida Mutineers, Dallas Empire, New York Subliners, and OpTic Gaming LA. The first match will be Florida Mutineers versus New York Subliners. It will be a close one, and it could honestly go either way, given this is New York’s last chance. But we will say that Florida will probably win this one.

The other match will be Dallas Empire versus OpTic Gaming LA. We would love to see an upset here from OpTic in an attempt to climb out of the hole they are in and secure their place in the upper bracket for the playoffs, but this will likely not happen, and they will be stopped here.

This will lead to a very exciting grand finals match between Florida Mutineers and Dallas Empire, two teams that are likely itching for this intense rematch. But given how things have been in the past, we will give this one to Florida Mutineers who will win their whopping fourth Home Series this season and stand tall alongside Atlanta FaZe at the top of the leaderboard.

Only 1 More Event After This One

It would be insane to see Florida win yet another Home Series Weekend and be at the top of the standings as there is only one more event after this one. The final event of the season will be the Toronto Ultra Home Series tournament, where it will be potentially the greatest one of all-time.

With the exception of now the New York Subliners, this event will feature four of the top five teams plus Minnesota Rokkr, the former top-five team in the league. These teams will be giving their all as this will be their last chance to earn points in time for the playoffs.

Here are the eight teams for that event:

  • Minnesota Rokkr
  • Atlanta FaZe
  • Dallas Empire
  • Florida Mutineers
  • Seattle Surge
  • Chicago Huntsmen
  • OpTic Gaming LA
  • Toronto Ultra

Group A is pretty unfairly easy for Chicago Huntsmen as it has them, Seattle Surge, Toronto Ultra, and OpTic Gaming LA. Meanwhile, Group B is very unevenly stacked with Atlanta FaZe, Minnesota Rokkr, Florida Mutineers, and Dallas Empire altogether in one. It is almost like a quick preview of the playoffs season. Get ready for this intense tournament next weekend.
