Black Ops Cold War Zombies Mastery Camos Guide
Treyarch has done it yet again, releasing the latest iteration of Zombies into Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. This unique version is the start of a whole new storyline in the overarching plot as the previous game in Black Ops 4 finished off the more than decade-long quest.
One of the most essential additions to the Zombies mode in the Cold War is the camos you can equip for your weapons. You can attach various weapon skins to your equipment, similar to the camos in the multiplayer. Here’s everything you need to know about the Black Ops Cold War Zombies mastery camos.
Black Ops Cold War Zombies Mastery Camos Are Here at Launch
The best part about these new Black Ops Cold War Zombies mastery camos is that they are already here in the game at launch. You won’t have to wait for the first season of content to drop to get them or some DLC expansion to enjoy them.
It is the same case for the multiplayer as well, which is much different from some of the past games where we had to wait a little bit to get the best of the game’s best camos. In general, these camos are the weapon skins that you can equip to your various weapons in Zombies.
They are there to allow you to customize your weapons and make them look a whole lot more awesome than they would otherwise. Even though Zombies is not a competitive game mode, it is still one that you can do with other players, so it is excellent to stand out.
You can show off your skills and the amount of time you have put into the wave-based undead mode by equipping your favorite weapons and other equipment with some special weapon camos. There are many games and are free to have, but you must do some challenges to unlock them.
Weapon Progression Is Shared But Camos Are Not
This is what players should keep in mind is how the progression system works in Black Ops Cold War. The game is more open than any other before it comes to how leveling your account and weapons work, but it isn’t completely free across the board.
Your account level progression and even weapons progression are shared across every major online game mode in the game. If you want to play Zombies most of the time, you will level up your account, unlock stuff, and still progress through the game like you would in multiplayer.
The same is the case if you are mainly a multiplayer fan as well. You can benefit across the board from everything you do online in the game, no matter what it is. It is especially important since you can equip the same weapons you have in multiplayer in Zombies.
You can bring one weapon of your choice into Zombies and use it there with all of the attachments and stuff from the Gunsmith as well. But you will not be able to use your multiplayer camos in Zombies mode, and vice versa, as this is where the single major limitation comes into play.
If you unlock the gold camo in multiplayer, you will not be able to use it in Zombies and vice versa; you will have to unlock all of your camos for that game mode separately by playing it. It is an annoying situation but worth it for those who like one or both of the modes.
What Are Mastery Camos?
What are mastery camos? As mentioned before, the skins for your weapons are known as camos in Black Ops Cold War. They change up the skins’ pattern and general look to make them look more unique, interesting, and help them stand out amongst the other players you encounter.
But there is more to the camo than just the 35 normal ones that you can unlock. There are three more Black Ops Cold War Zombies mastery camos that you can unlock and are the cream of the crop. They are the endgame challenge that dedicated players should aim towards.
They will take you a long time to get even one of these three endgame skins, but they are each fantastic and well worth the effort if you love the Zombies mode. As mentioned before, the number and styles mostly match up with the multiplayer mastery camos, but you will not share them across modes.
So, even if you have the mastery camos in multiplayer and want them in Zombies, that means that you are looking at basically double the grind you’ve already done in the game. But we are here to help you out as the three Black Ops Cold War Zombies mastery camos of Golden Viper, Plague Diamond, and Dark Aether are well worth unlocking if you love Zombies.
How to Unlock Golden Viper Zombies Camo
Unlocking all three of the Black Ops Cold War Zombies mastery camos is difficult as they get increasingly challenging to unlock as you go through each of them. But the easiest of the three to get is the Golden Viper camo. We are going to start with this mastery camo.
On paper, the idea of unlocking this particular mastery camo is pretty easy to do but not so much in practice. If you want to have this wonderfully designed golden unique skin for your weapons, you will need to keep some things in mind.
For one, you can only unlock the Golden Viper skin for one weapon at a time in the game. Let’s say that there is a specific assault rifle that you like in the game: well, you will need to unlock the Golden Viper skin for only it, and you will be able to use it on only that weapon.
But if there is a second weapon you like, you will have to go through generally the same process to unlock the camo for that weapon. It is a pretty frustrating situation and one that can take a very long time to accomplish, so we hope you love Zombies and the feel of the grind but always play responsibly and take breaks.
To start with how to unlock the Golden Viper skin, all you need to do is unlock every single main camo you can get for that weapon in Zombies. In total, there are 35 initial camos that you can unlock across seven different categories with five different options per category.
If you unlock all 35 of those camos, you will unlock the Golden Viper, and only for that particular weapon, you have all 35. For example, here are the objectives that you must complete for each of the categories in the assault rifle section.
Though there are 35 challenges in total — one for each camo in the game — they can be generally grouped into their different categories. Each of the challenges in a category has the same objective. Still, it gets more difficult with each one that you do. One might ask you to kill 50 enemies, while the second one will ask you to get 250 kills and so on, making it harder each time.
To help simplify things and make it easier for you to know what you are aiming towards, we will mention how many of each objective you must do in total to get all of the skins for that particular category of camos.
All Challenges Available for Every Single Weapon Category
Each weapon category has slightly different requirements for the challenges you must do. Still, the great thing about Zombies is that the challenges remain the same across most weapons with only three varying types: rifles, launchers, and knives.
This is different from how things were handled in the multiplayer camo challenges. You had different ones for every single weapon category, from shotguns to sniper rifles to assault rifles and so on. Let’s start with the rifles category that includes everything but launchers and the melee knives.
Here’s what you need to do in total for all of the rifle weapons in the game to get their Golden Viper camo in Zombies:
- Grunge category of camos: You must get 2500 kills in total to get all eight of the skins that are in this category. The individual challenges for each skin in the Grunge section are 50 kills, 250, 750, 1500, and 2500.
- Liquid category of skins: Get 2500 total critical hit kills in total with that weapon to get all of these skins.
- Brushstroke category: Get 2500 total kills with your weapon while it has the Pack-a-Punch upgrades for it.
- Vintage: Get 15 total elite eliminations with this weapon.
- Fauna: Get 10 kills rapidly in a row 10 different times in total with this weapon.
- Topography: Get three or more critical kills rapidly in a row 25 separate times in total.
- Infection: Get 20 or more consecutive kills with this weapon without getting hit at all by enemies 10 separate times in total.
As you can see, the challenges are generally pretty easy, but many of them will take you a lot of time to reach the goals. Though, the Infection category is particularly difficult since you are not allowed to get hit while completing the 10 separate objectives for that section.
The launchers side of things follow mostly the same style of challenges to complete them but are changed in some areas since this is a different weapon category. Here are all of the total challenges that you must do to get all 35 skins for a single launcher weapon:
- Grunge category: Get 1500 total kills with this weapon.
- Liquid: Kill two or more enemies rapidly (double kill) 50 different times.
- Brushstroke: Kill five or more enemies with a single shot from the weapon 750 different times in total.
- Vintage: Get 2500 kills in total while the weapon has been upgraded through the Pack-a-Punch machine.
- Fauna: Get 10 elite eliminations with the weapon in total.
- Topography: Get 10 kills rapidly in a row 10 different times.
- Infection: Get 20 or more kills without getting hit 10 different times.
And last but not least, we have the third and final different set of challenges, and that is for your knife. If you want to have the coolest knife around while you slice and dice the undead, here’s everything that you need to do to unlock the Golden Viper skin for it:
- Grunge category: Get 750 kills in total with the knife.
- Liquid: Get 50 kills with the knife in total against enemies disoriented by the stun grenade, monkey bomb, or decoy.
- Brushstroke: Get 750 kills with the knife when it has been upgraded by the Pack-a-Punch machine.
- Vintage: Get 15 kills in total with the knife against enemies affected by the frost blast or rings of fire while you have Aether Shroud active.
- Fauna: Get 10 elite eliminations with the knife.
- Topography: Get 10 kills rapidly in a row 10 different times with the knife.
- Infection: Get 20 or more kills in a row with the knife without getting hit 10 different times.
How to Unlock Plague Diamond and Dark Aether Camos
But the grind doesn’t end with just getting the Golden Viper skin for your weapons in the game. There are still two more endgame Black Ops Cold War Zombies mastery camos that you can unlock for every single weapon. They only increase the challenge and time that it must take you to do it.
First up is the Plague Diamond skin that requires you to unlock the Golden Viper skin for every single weapon in a specific category. This doesn’t affect the knife one, but if you want the Plague Diamond skin for an assault rifle, you must get the Golden Viper skin for every single rifle in the category.
Then and only then will you unlock the Plague Diamond for that weapon, but the great thing about it is that you will unlock that skin for every weapon in that category, at least. The same goes for the launchers where you must unlock the Golden Viper for all of them before you can equip the Plague Diamond skin on any of them.
That is pretty insane as you suddenly have to do all of the 35 challenges several different times to get the Diamond skin for one of the weapons that you like or all of them if you like all of them in Zombies mode. But the grind doesn’t end there, either.
There is still one more skin that you can get, and that is the Dark Aether one. This requires you to get the Plague Diamond skin that we just mentioned for all three weapon classes in the game. That means you must essentially do all 35 challenges for every single weapon in existence that you can use in Zombies mode.
That is an insane number of challenges to do. It will likely take you a very long time to do this one. It is the endgame goal for all grinders out there, but the one benefit is that you might get faster at doing these challenges as you complete them, know what you’re doing, and get more skill at the gameplay.
The Dark Aether skin is one of a kind and definitely worth the effort, but we always recommend that players please be careful and safe with your grinding as it will take a long time to complete, so don’t rush into it and wear yourself out in the process.
